how did you hang them?

I removed the two long screws from the top/heatsink area and tig welded the heads to a small "L" brackets I made from a 1"x1" 90* angle stock. Drilled a hole on the other leg of the 90. Screwed it back in then used small cable to hang them.

Wow nice work do you have problems with them staying flat? the screw would have to be centered just in the middle or it would tilt. did you hang them in your canopy or from the ceiling?

I screwed the screws all the way in, then marked the side of the head in orientation to the angle iron. I was able to get them very close hanging that way. Then the cable i have although small is fairly solid and not very flexible allowing me to tweak the cable near the mount, straightening the fixture.

Sounds hillbilly im sure...lol

Since my tank is in wall, they technically hang from the above floor joist since its sticking into an unfinished area of my basement, or ceiling to most lol

No sounds great. I think I will take the same angle bracket open the 90 angle to about 125 degrees then just have the cable connect to one on each side of the light.

Now I'm reconsidering my setting. I have 2 over my 36 and I'm wondering if it's too much light... I'm replicating sonics settings. Sps growth is good, however, my softies have seen better days... Especially the zoanthids. I still don't understand how the are stretching for light.....

Do you have so zoanthids that are on a small rock that you could play with and see what happens when you move them up or down. My zoanthids are on the bottom of my 75 they are not reaching/ stretching for light and I am only running at 60% but I am running more whites than most at 40%

It's actually quite funny... I have zoanthis all over the tank.... Lower middle and high.... Everything from mid and high are stretching... Ones on sandbed... Not stretching..... Seriously... Very bazzaro man

I still am questioning my decision from about 6 months ago... Going from my ecoxotics to the ai....I should have gone with the sols and not looked back..., I really question ai and the specs on the lights... Really didn't give sound advice on height placements, and the power of each led... Im also wondering about the lens spread as well.... I use to grow zoanthids like crazy, and I never had sps issues..
I also think shadowing is a huge concern. My tanks 36x18 and with my rock work, I'm getting a ton of shadowing...

Just venting

Kinda been wondering about going back to my sol blues...hydras aren't the same exact color. I noticed one side of the tank isn't as blue. Been though a few motherboards from AI and it hasn't fixed the problem. Been talking to them a lot and their customer service has been great. I dunno lol

why not play with it put one of your sol's on one side with the hydra on the other see if it makes a difference.

i know that i am still playing around with settings, i haven't lost any corals but some aren't out all the way, i have found with my pagoda cup the sat few days once i moved the whites down from 35 to 30, and moved my lights from 10" off the top of water surface to 11" the polyps came out more, but not all the way still. i have just turned my uv down from 75 to 45 to see what reaction i get the next few days. my newer red cap montipora has browned a little but from what iv read on here its the coral "putting on sun block" hopefully it will be ok. numbers now are
w- 27
v- 45 also just moved down yesterday from 75 to try.
uv- 45
db- 90
rb-85
g-15
r-15

well just from seeing the new settings on this morning for 2 hours already now at full strength my gold torch is out further then I've ever seen it, my pagoda cup is out more, and all my other corals along with few sps frags still have there polyps extended. so far so good fingers crossed! :D

I don't think coral like the whites

well i do agree, but i lowered my whites to around 27 about a week ago and i did see a little change, my gold torch was still sucked in a about half way, after lowering my uv from 75 - 40ish everything seemed to open back up almost immediately. and defiantly nothing closed up bye doing this. and my clam in the sand bed is still all the way open as well. btw i have 3 hydras over my red sea 150 gallon. 5 ft long 22 deep.

I have only had my hydra and director for a month,Its to soon to tell. But i must say,it looks great, and the director is great, very easy to use.Have had 0 problems.Got mostly sps.
