AI Hydra Settings Thread

I max my UV out at 35%. Much more and I tend to bleach out birdsnest close to the surface of the water. I suggest you slowly titer it out until you start to see bleaching.

Thanks - actually my corals sps and lps all have been fully out @ 40% mid day
I will lower the uv - I have my greens and reds on only 4hrs a day peak 40%
if I see gha I will lower the reds

Welcome! It looks like much over 15% on the red and green grows algae
IMO go slow on the UV i am starting to think that we can give the corals as much or more UV than in the ocean and in my case when I backed off on the UV my corals opened up more.

Lol no one knows they have been promising it for 3yrs.
I still think the vetex is a very well made led with little to no issues just
Over priced for not having up to date colours and control

saltyair what is the Vertex controller like?

Yea noticed some coralline algae bleaching on top end of rocks

just set up my hydras last night. Going to go with gregrock79's formula for now and see what happens. I have mixed sps and Lps that were under sols until yesterday. I have them set for a 30% acclimation. Do you think that it is neccesary after coming from sols or will uv and red/green have an aeffect?

Yes i would - due to the extra colours and optics - my vertex leds were very powerful but lacking. The hydra's are very strong and noticeably brighter.

it does not hurt to acclimate - tougher to come back from bleaching ;)

Just as a benchmark...had ai hydra on my nuvo 38 for at least 6 months now. I am running them at 76% across the spectrum. I had a pink birds nest for the first year or so and it did not do much under the IM strip lights. It has exploded since I added the hydra along with a birds of paradise and screaming green. I also purchased a lot of 13 acros/montis from a fellow reefer about two months ago and they are encrusting and growing well with a few exceptions not caused by the light. Not long enough for me to call it an overwhelming success, but I am satisfied so far. I also have a large LTA that is thriving. LPS are happy too. Feel free to ask any questions about my setup. I followed reef central for 2 years and feel like it is time to contribute. Lol.

first day with hydras with acclimation at 35% reduction and things are looking really good.. lps's out in force and sps's have some PE

Using the controller. Seems to be working just fine. Don't think I need the remote capabilities of the director. AI is sending me a new power supply and once I get it I will pro ably sell the director, that is unless I hear of features that would make me reconsider.

Yea was a little disappointed in the director being in beta testing still. I would like to suggest joe you stick with it - they seem to update regularly. Once i got the hang of it the control ability it is far superior to the controller or other systems I have seen and used.
I will be extremely happy if they add android, and improve cloud sweep.

going to try out the geo location this week end.

I am a little disappointed there hasn't been an update to the director yet. I definitely want to see a "no later than" option for lightning the way it is in the controller. Had lighting go nuts in my house the other night after lights out and Naso tang went ballistic.

Wasn't there an update anyways?
