AI Hydra Settings Thread

Wierd. I have a softie tank with some LPS and everything is growing like crazy with the hydra.

What were your settings?

i don't have them off hand but i had the blues higher than the rest to try to keep the transition smooth and ramp them up slowly. the blues were at about 60-70 peak, whites at about 20%, and everything else at 10%.

the sol super blues that i re-installed the other night started at 70% blues peak and 20% white. it's weird.

I have my blues only at 45 to 40. Whites at 18. I also have mine 16" awl.

Sad to here you have issues. I love the hydra and get great results.

Hi all- First post here as I am a new member. I too have the AI Hydras. Couldn't be happier. It was a little glitchy in the beginning as they did not come with the new firmware. However, as I was installing them on New Year's Eve they were at work and walked me through the download. I find that the wireless director does go offline on occasion but you just have to press the button to reset it. I have mine suspended with the cables they have on their site. I don't use the local settings (weather) only because I am iffy on what the max intensities will be. I keep mine in the 60s. I have attached a pic from when I first put them up. Also the can/recess light above is a Hue Phillips (wireless) light which I can manually control as well turning it to any color I want or turning it off completely which is nice and puts the emphasis back on the tank. Tank size is 140gl and you will see I am running two hydras.

Thoughs on a pair of hydra 26 over a 48x24x20. Less than 18" depeth from sand bed to water lvl. Will be a mainly sps tank and over flow is on the side the tank so really only need to light about 40" long of tank.

Anyone have any idea if certain colors encourage algae growth more than others? I thought I heard from someone that green and red do... Wondering if there is any truth to this. Dealing with some hair algae and i'm desperate Haha.

You should not have a problem with a pair of 26s as long as you read through the thread and find your ideal settings. Most likely you will be running pretty low settings. I am running a 26 and a regular hydra in parralel over 1 section of my 180 with no problem.

Some research says it does, some says it doesn't. I was having an issue with hair algae and decided to get a phosphate meter. turned out my ro filters were depleted and I am adding 0.04 ppm phosphates with every addition of top off water. New filters ordered...lol have you checked you parameters?

Im thinking running the pair of 26's with a 18" EXT rail should be about perfect spacing. Guessing the rail is actually 18" and after conecting the 2 would guess around 14" between the lights.

Yeah its a new filter, and salifert phosphate test is saying 0 or maybe just over. Nitrates are the issue... Working on dropping them. Thanks tho!

If it's a nitrate issue you could reduce your feedings, rinse the food, vacuum up the detritus in the sump/overflows, look at vodka dosing.

I am constantly amazed by my hydra. I am fragging softies like crazy, and my LPS & SPS have me dosing daily to keep up with them growing. Worth every penny!

Thanks guys. I think it's probably phosphates as well the more I look into. I just switched my lights back their old setting and will be getting carbon and gfo reactors Wednesday. Thanks again!

If it's phosphate, have you tried phosban?
Love that stuff, I just put about a cup in some panty hose, knot it and drop in the sump.
