AI Hydra Settings Thread

Looking for some advise. I'm currently upgrading my 15gal Nano which has a Hydra 26 to a IM 30L. Questions is should I go with two Hydra 26's which one will the the new HD model or just go with two Hydra Primes? Doing the later I can easily sell the old tank to a buddy at work with the Hydra 26. Just not sure if the Primes will give enough coverage for whatever I choose to grow.

The difference between the two fixtures isn't that great and two primes on a 36" long tank would be a stretch coverage wise.

So after reading through this article (http://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Ecotech_CoralLab_WP1.pdf) by World Wide Corals and ecotech I have decided to give their settings a try and adapt them to AI HD lighting. I have changed it slightly to include the built in respiration peaks (I am a big believer in including respiration peaks to give the corals a break from the most intense lighting just like clouds or choppy seas do on a reef) but have extended my photo max to 7 hrs and shortened the ramps. This is still longer then in the study at an 11 hr total photo period vs 9 in the study. I did this so I could enjoy the tank when I get home from work and don't think a few hrs will make a huge difference. The AI lights work a bit differently then the Radions though so even though im pushing more white/red/green the overall intensity is less. I did this on purpose since I run my lights closer to the water line. Also, I tried to take into account the differences between the amount/types of diodes between the Hydra HD's and Radions and adjust ratios accordingly. If you want to run their schedule to a t just shorten the ramps to 1 hr on each side while keeping the peak the same. I'm excited to get some input from you guys and my tank, also below is the link to my .aip if you want to give it a try! https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZdjsRFPUuvDNEyYXw

Thanks for the light configuration! I just swapped out one of my Hydra 26 HD's over my 40B that went bad (AI sent me a new one and am sending the bad one back) and threw your light schedule on it and the other light. I'll run it a month or so and see how they do. I have a couple of frags of acro. One died from not having light and a other has its tissue receding, so hopefully this schedule can help. My old one had the white much lower (9-10% max). [emoji2] [emoji106]

I got lucky and found 2 Hyda26's for a good price.

No problem! Also, I had a bunch of requests for a schedule with less white that I can post if you want it. Finally if you are coming from a schedule with significantly less overall intensity be sure to use acclimation for a month or two at 30-40%. Happy reefing!

Orcus Vanruna, I just switched back to a Hydra 26HD a small I've had much success before with them.
However, I wanted the new G4 so I can especially use the AB+ profile since I'm SPS dominant. I found your post a few pages back with your schedule matching the AB+ profile. So I'm curious to see, how are your results so far? I'm incredibly tempted to plug it in and try it, but would rather see your success first! Currently using my previous profile that works awesome for SPS.

I also really like that you increased the photoperiod, since you like I, would much rather see and enjoy your tank after work and what not.

Cheers and a Merry Christmas to everyone!

So on xmas eve I was at the LFS which was just the owner and I for about 2 hrs haha. Over his main frag display he has Radion G3's on one side and Hydra 52HD's on the other. Since it was dead we busted out the PAR meter and got to work. He already runs sps AB+ on the Radions and our PAR readings backed up the WWC study at 24" AWL 12" BWL which was about 300 PAR. The profile I made when loaded onto the hydras was fairly close about 300 PAR under the same conditions but the visible color was a bit "whiter" in appearance (It was a very slight difference). Next we dropped the Hydra's to 13" AWL because I have noticed what appeared to be burning on a few of my lower light demand corals (Birdsnest in particular). What we found is when dropping to this height par jumped to nearly 400 at 12" depth. After messing with the settings for a good bit we settled on reducing white, red, green by about 30% and came up with a 12" AWL profile that I am now currently running on my tank. He is keeping the original profile running on his tank as am I the new on mine so I will update in a month or so with our results.I will say however that judging by the PAR readings we gathered and the visual spectral comparison observed between the radions and hydras I would put money on the fact that we will see similar results to the radions running sps AB+. Attached are the new links to both profiles. Happy reefing!!!!! AI SPS AB+ 12" AWL ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZhvyvRF4Kf5orQL7w ). AI SPS AB+ 24" AWL ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZdjyvRF4Kf5orQL7w )

I can't open the file, could you post your setting % please. For the 12" above water. I just put the AB+ setting on my 6 hydra 52 but it looks super blue but from looking at the gen 3 specs on how many leds per color the hydra has more per color so the % per colors would be different. Right?

You can only open the file via the my AI web browser site. You must first download the file that I posted the link for. Then go to the my ai website from a pc or mac web browser. Once logged in click on the light you want to upload my profile to and click on

. Next click upload find my profile you just downloaded and select it. The AI web app will then load the profile to your light. It's unfortunately useless for me to post percentages because it's a dynamic profile.

The problem is I use apex to run my lights so I don't even have the software to check this out.

Your lights are the original hydra that's why they won't work. Also the diode complement is different between mine and your lights but the schedule is basically 2 hr ramps with a 7hr peak of roughly 25-30 W,R, G and 70-90 UV, V, RB, B. I hope that helps and happy reefing!

This is where I am at right now, I have 4 t5 kick kick in for 4 hrs so I adjusted my lights down a bit so I'm around 280 par and about the same par with just leds

what do you think? Keep in mind I have the original hydra 52s. Thanks

I would say if your hitting that 280-320 PAR sweet spot at 12" BWL that looks pretty darn good!!

Haha you sound like me. I have a AI Prime HD and a Hydra 52HD over a standard 29 gallon tank [emoji23]

Lol nice, yea it's a lot of light for sure. If I drained my tank I'm sure I could turn it into a tanning bed and start making some money.

That tank is beautiful those colonies [emoji7]. And the profile is very blue even viewing the sps ab+ profile on radions it does appear "bluer" then 20k radium halides by a good bit.

Also, maybe try bringing the blue down to the 70's range and the WRG up to 35% and see if that warms the spectrum up a bit without skyrocketing your PAR.

I raised the whites to 30 from 24 and it looks a little whiter

what sucks is they did a year long experiment with the gen 3 and I wish they would do the same with the hydra 52s. I can run what I have but it won't match what they had. It maybe close but won't get the same results I'm sure because the led count is different. Below is gen3 and hydra 52
