AI Vega Color/Blue Owners Thread!

I think u will need separate controllers due to the fact that the vega has 20
Channels and Hydra 7. If you end up with a new director I believe you will be able control both with the same controller.

you were right about the channel difference and thus more channels will equal more detailed customization. According to them "The Vega and Hydra though using the same lens, have them integrated differently casting a different aesthetic across the tank as well"

the other advantage Vega has is the color pucks availability.

I spoke to AI and they will work on the same controller.

---sorta off subject... I'm working with support on my Vega, and I did ask them if anyone has been picked for the "beta director" yet and I was told no.....things are moving slowly it seems....

Seems everything at AI moves slowly...I've been working with them to replace a power adapter for my Vega (and the pos controller) and my opinion, they dilly dallied while my cube inhabitants suffered. Anemone was on the move non stop while the zoas were reaching for any available light.
Not sure what LEDs are reliable but not feeling it fro AI.

FAIR WARNING:

Do NOT update to the 2.18 firmware on the controller. Once again, it cause several of my light pucks to go stop working. I had to subsequently downgrade the firmware to 2.08, then back to 2.09, and factory reset 3 times, to get one of my light fixtures working again.

These guys seriously need to get some help with their software. This is crazy. This 67 page thread is riddled with problems like this.

I have 2 vegas over my shallow tank. 16" Depth Anyone have a tank around that and having good results? If so can you share your settings.

JG have you contacted AI? I know when I had a problem in the past they had me unplug the fixture, and while holding down the reset button plug the light back in. This does something with the firmware to make it reload from the controller onto the fixture. This fixed an issue I had in the past. I dont know what your light did today, but its worth a try. Unless of course "factory reset" as you mentioned involved pulling power etc like this.

While I agree about the software, their customer service is amazing. I addressed my software issues with them and every issue has been addressed in the 2.18 firmware update.

"¢Add Hydra support.
"¢New menu item "Review Timers" to assist in manual timer programming.
"¢Improved "Easy Timer Setup" for less blues and more consistent color ramps during sunrise/sunset.
"¢Running "Setup Lights" no longer changes timers to the default Easy Setup values

I didn't realize they had this firmware update until you mentioned it. It looks like it was just released yesterday. Is anyone else having issues? I'm a little worried about updating now.

No idea why I had the problems but the lights work now with 2.09. It could be (probably is) because my are Sol to Vega upgrades.

Justin emailed me at about 8PM his time - something I appreciate. I've had good customer service - I just wish I didn't need to use it.

I recently unplugged a few vegas from power at the light and moved them to do tank maintenance. When I plugged them back in, a couple did not act proper on several accounts. I just set them all back to red and reset the controller. This did not help, however the controller kept saying "firmware ok. Update anyway?" I clicked "NO" a couple of time after the rest, with no change. Then I answered yes, and the controller updated the firmware to the same version it already had. I presume it reset the memory which I also presume had been corrupted by the power spike caused by unplugging the light while on, then plugging it back in. Anyway, allowing the controller to update the lights firm ware was the answer and fixed the issue. I have decided to turn all the light completely off the next time I have to disconnect to see if this doesn't stop it from happening again.

How do you turn the lights off without unplugging the power cord? I see an "all off" option on the main menu screen but it has never done anything when I press it. Is that normal?

You have to keep your finger pressed on 'all off' for a few second to turn the lights off - it's a safety feature to prevent accidentally turning the lights off.

Heh:), I've owned these lights for 3 months and pressed that button countless times hoping it would work. Thanks for the very useful info! I love this forum:rollface:

I haven't had any issues with the 2.18 update and I'm on 4 sol->vega kits on a single controller. Just another data point for whatever that's worth.

And I'm running 3 of them over a 12" shallow tank.

Is that possible a mixing of SOL , Vega and Hydra running together in a tank and control by only one controller ?

i asked AI support and you can run hydra and vega on the same controller. you won't get a lot of customization with hydra as it has 7 channels as oppose to vega having 20. but they will work on the new controller. I didn't ask about SOL.

I am planning on running 1 vega with 1 hydra....my LFS said he should be getting the hydras by third week of June.

I've been getting a lot of vague responses to my question, so I apologize for asking here. I'm a long time t5 guy and am considering the switch. I've got. 36x18 40b and was wondering if i could get away with a single LED unit, be it a Vega or Hydra? I keep minimal sps and mostly lps and softies.
