An FFM Complaint...

So, last night when we were cleaning up and my students were grabbing the corals that they had purchased and stored in my greenhouse system, one of them noticed that his Maxima clam was missing. The poor kid, who is really just getting into reefing, dropped all of his money that he made selling frags (from the 10 gallon next to mine), on his first clam. He was SUPER excited about getting the clam and then when he went to bring it home, someone walked off with it. I would like to think that someone did it on accident and if they did would be happy to return the clam to its rightful owner. If someone took the clam, that really sucks to steal a clam from a young reefer, or anyone for that matter. I am usually impressed with the honesty and generosity of the reefing people, but every once in a while I run into something that makes me wonder.

If anyone knows anything about the missing clam, please shoot me a PM. I don't want to turn this into a big thing but would like to get his clam back to him if I could. I don't want the student to feel like this is not a "safe" community to be a part of.
Thanks.

That's just crappy. Not a way to cap off such an amazing event. I have a 2" maxima that I've had for about a year I would gladly donate to him if you don't hear on the missing one.

That does suck. I generally keep a good eye on my belongings but I feel a little extra laxed at reefing events, and I left some pricy items unattended without much worry, including my par meter. Guess I'll go back to guarding my stuff everywhere.

I would still like to think that we don't have to worry about stuff like this. I still think that the reefing group is an honest bunch.

It's a shame, I left my cooler containing hundredddddds$$$$$$$$ of dollars in frag purchases almost in every room for hours at a time. At this rate if no one comes forth and does the right thing and give it back I believe an ultra maxima is in order for this poor kid. I will kick in what ever is needed to make this right. The Reefing community will fix this because this is who we are. That one low life who did this does not represent us or what we are about. Hope it turns up but if it doesn't we got you

Shameful!!! I am so sorry Fitch! We all know the tremendous effort you put out to make this event happen, for the love of the hobby but more so for the love of your students. We all wish we had more teachers like you in our schools and I know how much your students love you. I am sure your heart was broken for this kid. And I am sure you personally felt violated too, the truth is whoever did this though they were stealing from you. Bruno and I would also like to help restore this kids faith in our reefing community which is a generous and honest group of people who go out of their way to help and support each other!

That's just terrible. Hope he gets it back. Hate to think that there were people there yesterday with those types of intentions. I'll also kick in some dough to help replace it. And tell him to stop by next year (or if he is ever in Norwalk) and I hook him up with an RTMA pack of goodies free of charge. I cant imagine how many tables, chairs, jugs of water the kid had to move to make yesterday possible.

At the OSRAS booth we watched some corals for club members, I think Chris and Missy were watching some corals for CTARS members. In this hobby of great people there are always a few bad apples. Im very impressed with the quick response and generosity of CTARS members for this poor kid.

Very sad hopfully someone grabbed it thinking it was there bag it either way I'm willing to help pay for a better clam for the poor kid who worked hard

Change the name, this group is still the same.
I think it's huge that so many have stepped up to offer to help replace what's missing, that's the attitude that makes this a great group no matter what the forum title is.
I am hoping it was an honest mistake, but even if not, you guys have shown your true colors :D

Oh man that just sucks! If it doesn't turn up I suggest a gofundme to raise $ for a replacement. I would gladly contribute what I can to help him get a new one.

Hey Jon I was think you def gotta becarful with couple reef people I recently ran into a awsome problem over a deposit. Never thought it but a reefer had about ten cops at my door thinking I was trying to rob this guy and all this othere crap over 40 bucks turned into this huge ordeal and ended with the cops laughing and checking my tank out. And I'm not the first person to have a problem with this member so just becarful who you do business with.
