And so it begins ...

Well, I was cruising around on cragslist and found a 110g aquarium for an INSAINLY good price and in good shape.

So now the saga begins.

I have the 250w MH pendant I just bought for my 50g. I just picked up a second 250w pendant just like the one I have. So lighting is covered ! I think 500 watts sould be good.

Since I'm quite the handy man, I'm going to build a custom stand. That's covered !

Now, here's where it starts getting tricky.

I want to do a fuge with a skimmer. I was thinking of using a 20L and adding baffles to suite my needs.
Too small ?
Next issue.......return pump. Any suggestions on best brands? Also, I need to figure in how I want to set up the flow.
I was thinking 1200 gph flow at the inlets. (Like a Mag 18, but not necessairly a Mag)
We're wanting to get the tank drilled with 2 overflows and maybe 4 inlets using SCWD.
Now, do I need to figure the flow into the equasion with the SCWD ?
Also on this note, who or where can I get this beast drilled ? Any suggestions ?

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We only want to build this thing once and do it right.
Thanks in advance !

i would love to help you set this up, i dont have anythign to offer you equip. wise, but you live close and i love that whole thing...lol

Nice....I'll have to give them a call. Now back to the question of how many holes.

If it makes a diffrence the tank is a Oceanic 110 show 60 x 18 x 24

Suggestions ?

the fish bowl has 30 gal tanks for sale that is drilled for a refug. - it has one hole in the back bottom corner =-) awesome - oh its 30bucks - and then aquatic eco has a external pump in there garage for 35.00 - awesome big pump - i am going to get it if you dont hurry = if its still there - but they have bigger and smaller pumps in that room for sale - but i didnt see any internal pumps there - also the last time i was there - there where huge refug for sale for like 110.00 huggeeee hard to fit

I would just drill the 2 holes in the corners and then build your PVC piping for return and have it run on the top of the tank. Then you can put little heads anywhere you want for any direction of flow. Plus the more holes you drill the more room for error and a cracked glass. I suggest get it drilled before you do anything else. lol

I bought a Pan World external pump that is rated at 1900 gph and I couldnt be any happier. I put 4 heads on mine and it works great.

your going with us arent you? on saturday to the inlet. - i wouldnt get a tank drilled - i would have two over flows and a huge pump underneath and plumb whatever you want up top - iam going to do it on my other 90 - just a idea

I didn't think about the integrity of getting drill happy. I'll look into going that route. Have any pics of your plumbing ?

I cant go this weekend, im going to Bike Week. I cant wait. I had a lot planned this weekend wanting to redo my sump but Bike Week is more important. lol Let me know how it goes.

Also im waiting on my friend to get me those pics of the eel for you, hes slacking big time.

I'm about 70% sure we'll go Saturday. We have to take care of some stuff early. May be 2:00 before we get out there.

2 reasons I dont want hang on overflows. Noise and the look. I'm going for a nice clean look on this tank.

No but I can get some tomorrow. I will bring the camera home. I thought it was going to be hard, but it wasnt, we had it done in about 2 hours. When it comes time to do the plumbinig I will come over and help if you want. I thought it was fun.

They are kinda noisy but I would rather have them then a broken glass on a display tank. I bought 2 of the cpr 1500 gph overflows from marinedeopt.com and there not to bad. They send you a cover for it and it cuts down big time on noise. My problem is the noise from the pump is loud.

I'd appreciate the help !
When it's that time I'll hit you up.

110 tank build part 1

110 tank build part 1

Ok so it took a couple hours to get what I wanted but here's the frame for the tank. I think it will hold 1,100+ pounds.
Measurements are 61"L x 20"W x 30"H

Oh is that sketchup i see?? lol. That is really nice and a great way to use the program. It looks very sturdy. I'm no stand builder but are the center 2 braces at the top necessary? Wouldn't be much support because the top frame would hold most of that, maybe bowing from the long boards? Because if they aren't that needed, it'll give you more room to work with underneth. Those would get annoying if you were moveing things back and forth under it.
