Sickolicious, the new frag tank is done and curing!

Stoked for all the possibilities with the new frag tank! Any way to make 3-4 weeks fly by? :lolspin:

You really have skills building a lot of tanks stuff.

Question did you sand this tank when you set it back up
If so what did you used to polished it?
Thanks

I had my buddy Eric build my rimless glass tank so I can't take credit for that one.

I also didn't take the opportunity to sand and polish the big tank before I set it back up but I have done the research and I think I'm comfortable with the below process to buff out an acrylic tank:

1. Empty the tank of fish and water. If you are removing scratches on the inside, it produces particles of acrylic through sanding that may not be good for your fish.

2. Sand in one direction only with 120 or 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper for deep grooves, 320 grit for scratches that can be felt with a fingernail, 1800 or 400 grit for fine scratches, 2400 or 3200 for light scuff marks, or 4000 or 6000 grit for very fine scratches.

3. After the first sanding, move to the next grade of sandpaper and switch sanding direction.

4. Continue working through the grades of sanding until you reach the finest grit. Switch direction with each grit. Never work in a circular motion, which can cause swirls on the acrylic surface.

5. Expand the area you are sanding by about 4 inches with each grade to avoid distortion from sanding down one small point.

6. Clean the aquarium with clean water and a drop of detergent once the surface has been restored to your satisfaction. Use flannel for cleaning and drying, and avoid paper towels.

Thanks
I done that before on my smaller tank
But it will be too much for a 16' long area ( 96 x36x29)
I am in the process of renovating my whole tank.

Anyway I found some easy to polish video using wet sander and common drills @ YouTube

Thanks

It's curing now...tick...tick...tick... 3 weeks out till I can install it!

Still need to build out the custom external overflow box...

Just read through the whole thread. Your system is truly an inspiration. Your DIY skills are killer as well.

I think I have met your brother Travis a couple of times at frag swaps. He came to see my system one time, but I have not had a chance to check his out. Think I need to make time.

Great job on the build. I will definetly be following this from now on.

Thanks for checking out the build! Trav and I love this stuff. I'm sure you have met him at a few frag swaps! He is a hard guy to miss with his large frame and big smile!

As a matter of fact Trav and I built his system and sump for his current home. It's looking good these days! If you do have a chance to see his set up it will not disappoint.

Thanks for making the connection and the next time I head out to visit Trav we will look you up buddy! I would love to see your system as well!!!

I'll let Trav know we linked up...How would he recognize who you are?

Tell him it is Calvin, Josh's friend. He will know who I am. Maybe next time I am down to see Josh we can make a point to head to Travis's to see his sytem. It has been on my list of tank's I have to check out. Thanks for the response.

Right on I'll tell him! You bet buddy! Let me know if there is anything Trav or I can do to help you with your reefing action!
