Holy cow man nice set up. Envious and subscribed for updates. That's like my "if I win the lottery tank"LOL. Very nice.

Dapg8gt - Thanks for the nice words. It has been a fun build so far.

robferrari - Thanks! I still have plenty of room for more fish in the future...Stay tuned.

Kyle Wrigley - What's up buddy? i should go snag the one from LS at 6th south! :lol2: Yea that's all I need is those little freaks to scratch the tank :sad2:

Andrew johns - Man you have a sweet tank! I think you have more tangs than I do! Love your Achilles! I have lots of corals I will quarantine then put in...hope to put them in the reef in a few weeks...

I have a few new fish in quarantine.
I have begun work on the canopy top and added some lighting.
I have also installed my apex to monitor the system.
I have had limited time to build out the tank lately but hope to have some focused time toward the end of the month. I am just counting this time as cycle time for the system.
I will post a new video of the whole rock stack so far soon.

He could have received a taunting flag right here plus who's going to clean the glass?

He was a little taken back when the large Vlamingi squared up nose to nose with him...

This Sohal Tang rules the tank

Thanks for the heads up! I have a smaller clown tang in quarantine I'd like to add later on. Any tricks for adding a smaller clown tang to a tank with a larger sohal?
;-)

Good luck on that one... I'd bet my money on the larger Sohal for now... But the Clown are such dirty fighters, he'll just eat and eat till he's big enough to nail the Sohal, and then one day all that stored up anger will pop out !!! LOL

I would try putting the clown in, in an acclimmation box for a few days. And see if the Sohal goes nuts on him in the acclimation box, or ignores him.

Your tank is looking so awesome! I'm jealous! I can't wait to load my tank with fish. Do you think I will be able to get away with two smaller Sohal's???

BigOldReef - I hear you...my money is on the Sohal as well...Maybe I will feed up the clown tang for a while then put him in the acclimation box and give it a try :twitch:...

Omega_rains - Thanks! :spin3: It's getting there slowly

danfeig - Thanks buddy! I had two Sohals in this tank the last time I had it set up. They fought a little but eventually got along just fine...you can see the two in this video:

One was medium and the other was small.

I spent a few hours with my fellow reefer friend Lorne chasing the queen around the 40 square feet of reef and finally Lorne nabbed him in the screen barrier net I built to section off the right side of the tank! He rolled him up in the screen like the Sunday paper! We were stoked after chasing him all over for hours tearing up the tank in the process.

I added some zoa and paly corals and hope to throw in a few more challices over the next few days.

The queen is now in the 8' sump safely away from munching on my corals!

Just my opinion, but I actually think through evolution the Clown Tang is the Pacific's Sohal Tang, while the Sohal has pretty much made the Red Sea its' home. They have some very similar markings, behavior traits, growth rates and feeding habits. I believe another name fore the Sohal is the Red Sea Clown Tang.

At any rate, if you can make that work, more power to you. Clown tangs are notorious for wasting away in captivity, and I'm pretty sure the Sohal will put it through its' paces, unless it's a considerably larger clown tang.
