Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

Interesting Alex T. Good insight...

On another note what ballast are you running with your VHO's?

I've since switched them out to 3 Kessil a150 Ocean Blue LED pendants. They definitely don't have that VHO actinic pop, but a nice supplemental light overall.

When I was running them, I was using the ARO VHO ballast from Hellolights. I never had one problem with it. My only gripe with VHO is the power they consume. In my opinion, they are still the best actinic lighting hands down.

I am ready for "The Tang Wars!"

We can dump "Tanked" and have a new reality TV series.

I'd much rather see videos of the setups and success rates of RC hobbyists than 2 half wits catering to anyone with pockets deep enough to quickly kill precious livestock.

I knew I wasn't going to watch again when I saw them dumping a full grown Achilles Tang, multiple Anthias, a Flame Angel, multiple Yellow Tangs and multiple Hippo Tangs into a tank that just had faux corals, a bacteria culture in a bottle introduced that day with freshly poured in sea water from their famous "garden hose". What kills me is that the tank was for people that have never even had a saltwater aquarium before.

It's irresponsible people like this that will have serious sanctions put on our hobby. I'd love to see a follow up show a year later on the tanks they've set up so far. Many are probably already taken down. I hope both shows get cancelled. Please stop watching if you're reading this.

Do you think I will be able to get away with two smaller Sohal's???

Definitely not in a 150g. Not even one Sohal. They need very large tanks, and get super aggressive.

OP, Honestly, I'm a little weary of the Clown Tang in with the Sohal... Like someone mentioned, they don't always do great in captivity, and they need to be in tanks much larger than a 1200g, IMHO. Putting one of those in with peaceful fish is a big risk.

Steph - need to change my signature line. They're going in a very large system. 1,400+ gallons. Plenty of room to swim, hide and maneuver.

Point well taken. They must have faith in their bacteria. I think they are trying to compete with Dr. Tim's bacteria since it is famous in large and public aquariums.

I think they have more faith in the mighty dollar. Those aren't Seiko watches on their wrists. I'll bet that the maintenance companies that are hired to take care of the tanks show up and say...***!

I'm not ready to add the clown tang into the big tank just yet. He is doing so well in the 150 frag tank that I will leave him in there for a bit longer.

I added more of my coral livestock this weekend mainly LPS, palys, clams and a few more zoas. I also added a few new fish.

I added a third EB8 to my apex to break up the amp load of the 400 watt MH lights as well as everything else.

Next step is to finish the right side of the reef rock stack and to continue to quarantine my SPS getting them ready for placement in the main display.

Added some LPS and a few softies
