Anemone emergency

So I woke up this morning to find my purple lta sucked into my mp10. He seamed quite happy and planted himself deep in the sand so I don't know what's up. Any way as he floaters around he hit a big frag of purple style on my frag rack. There is a piece of tentacle stuck to the frag and a bunch of pieces on the sand and the water is slightly cloudy.

He is currently stuck in the mp10 so I just put the wet side of the pump on the sand to see if he works his hay out. I assume he is probably a gonner even though he is alive now.

Your thoughts? Is his wounds and whatever is leaking out dangerous to my other inhabitants?

Well I should probably just throw him in mt qt till he dies.... Rather than having him knocking over frags as he floats around the tank assuming he gets free from the pump screen...

The tank was treated with copper months ago but has been up and running with carbon since... I really don't know.

Never treat any tank intended for inverts with Copper, the copper can leech into the glass or acrylic and remain there for years as it slowly leeches into your tank. If the tank you used the copper in is your MT/QT you might as well just throw him away instead of placing him in there, He will just foul the water when he dies.

I set up a quick qt. he finally free'd himself from the strainer. It's bad....I will post picks when I have a chance...

I was just commenting last night on how great he dug himself in, how good he colored up, how fast he grows etc... Soo dissapointed...

that is a myth and copper can't get into the glass, acryclic or silicone, with a good rinse of the tank it will be free of copper.

Bell here are the before and after pictures...

Not true. I had a 75g tank that the previous owner had used copper in. The first test came back at 5ppm. I had some leach out for a couple of weeks. First coral in, kenya tree coral, closed up for a week and I did 20g water changes every 2 or 3 days for 2 weeks. At that point the coral opened and the copper test said zero. Used the tank for everything including sps, never had a problem.

To MHG, I don't think it looks that bad (hard to tell from the pics). I had a Condy get caught in a powerhead and it got torn up a lot worse than your nem looks. Mine only had a few tentacles left, but the trunk & foot were untouched. It took a good 2 months to heal up and another 4 to get back to it's original size. It's been happy and healthy in my nem tank for 18 months after it was back to full size and it now hosts a female cinnamon clown and a male tomato clown.

Good luck to you and the nem!

WIth foot damage on a LTA- usually fatal. You may be one of the lucky few if it is only abraded and not torn all the way through. You still will have to hope against infection- but you do have a chance- perhaps with this one. If there are filiments comming out of the foot though- likely a lost cause,

he is fully extended but hs chunks of meat slufing off his wound...Lots of black and gray tissue... Not good...

Consider me mis-informed. Thank you for the information. I have been told by multiple LFS's and reefers that copper can leech into acrylic/glass and slowly leech back out for some time after. I guess to a point your post confirms this but the long term effects are obviously neglegent. Makes sense since any substance can only leech out for so long before it is removed by WC's.

Update.

Well he has been in QT for a while now... Most of the black dead tissue has fallen off...Looking better but we will see...

Well he is loosing color but that is probably that cheasy small 10k bulb on my q tank. his would looks good but over all he is smaller and wont eat.

Well he ate today for the first time since the incident.... Gonna build an egg crate box and put him back in the dt this weekend...

sucks man. I have a bicolored condy that loves to walk a bout...hit the powerhead 4 times now, but so far no damage. I have been lucky. all my other anems stay planted, except for this one....he is like the austrailian hiker or something...

fish reaction:

"yup these goes Joe walking around again.....yup there goes Joe floating.....yup Joe is in the powerhead again"
lol

I was in mlMinnesota last week and the wife called saying my carpet walked into a powerhead! Still havent seen the fallout from that. Shortly though. Good luck with yyours, hope it comes around for you.

Two days ago my gigantea got into a battle with one of my MP40s and lost. I don't use the foam covers since the anemone wasn't close to it,usually hugging the rocks. For some reason, it decided to stretch out and got yanked into the wetside. I ended up cutting out a piece of the wetside strainer to get it out. It was mangled pretty badly. It lost a few pieces of the outer edge of the oral disc and about a quarter of its diameter looked like a frayed blanket. However, today it looks like most of the edge is smoothed out and it's starting to heal.

This is a good reminder to other anemone owners to add foam guards to your MP40s/Tunzes/powerheads.

Best of luck! I'm sure it'll pull through.
