Anemone ID

I bought this anemone because it has a very interesting coloration- gold and maroon. Dark enough of a maroon to border on black.

I had a sneaking suspicion that it isn't a BTA but the shape was just so close. Anyway, I was hoping you guys could help me ID it. It's actually healthy, the mouth is tight and what you're seeing is actually the column.

The only time it wasn't looking like a human orifice was when it was in the bag, when it shrunk down and the tentacles extended. I have the hardest time not thinking of dirty names for it. Please help me out.


The two pictures are with and without flash. I would take a picture of the foot for you but it's smooth with no tell tale signs.

The lfs said they did not think it was a hosting species and thusfar, my A. ocellaris won't even come close to it. It's under T5HO but is too new for me to gauge how its lighting requirements. TIA reefers

Someone who had waaayyyyy toooooo much of that stuff that makes your lips bigger injected into their mouth. Or maybe who ate something they were allergic to and swole up?

Erm, not a clue on the species though. How big is it?

I was thinking of other orifices but yeah... that works too. It's rather big actually, 5-6in across at full extension. I kind of reminds me of audrey from little petshop of horror

My search for an id let me to Pseudocorynactis sp.

A corallimorpharia, not an anemone =/ Can anyone confirm this for me?

Rofl, that's what I figured, so I added a more PG version of it ^_^ Though in my "defense" you can sorta see the bit of an indent on the top part that looks a bit like a human's top lip.

I thought the pseudos were those little clear ones with the orange tips? Oh my. I need to read up more

Edit: Looked it up on google images and a few looked like it. I'm no expert though
