My goal is to keep an anemone/clownfish in my 29 but before I do this I know I need better lighting than my fo. What type of lighting do I need so I don't have to upgrade later down the road?

Would compact flourescent do???

metal halide???

PC, t-5, or MH could work. I would probably steer you toward either t-5 or MH. I would also suggest you go with Entacmea quadricolor as your first host anemone. They tend to be more forgiving of less than perfect water conditions.

is there any threads on the difference between PC, t-5 and MH? I am still not sure what the difference is other than the wattage?

t-5 and mh are more intense and maintain their intensity deeper into the water. PC's are only intense for the first foot into the water and then the intensity drops off sharply. In a 29 gallon, you would be able to successfully keep say a BTA and a pair of clowns with any of the lights mentioned.

There is more on lighting in the forum entitled "lighting, filtration, and equipment." And there are threads on T-5s and probably mh's there, too. What are the dimensiona of your tank?
