Anemones in the Marshall Islands

An excellent site that actually has correct information! Some great photos of anemone bleaching events, and even some baby haddonis!

Anemones and Anemonefish of the Marshall Islands

I have one of this guy's videos. It is nothing short of incredible. Anemones, fish, giant clams that would make you drool, all in beautiful resolution.
I noticed in the S. mertens pics he has pics of a chrysopterus/tricinctus pair that appears to be producing eggs.

Yes - I saw that. I shared those photos for MarinaP - as our resident tricinctus expert, I thought she'd enjoy them :)

I'd love to see this video. Can you provide more details on where it can be purchased/viewed?

Here is a link to the one I have. http://www.underwaterkwaj.com/dvd1/dvd1.htm
You have to email him for price/availability. I think it was $10-$20 including shipping from the Marshall Islands, but don't quote me on that, it was a few years ago.

Here is a link to some of his other work. http://www.underwaterkwaj.com/videos.htm As you can tell by the stills, the guy is very talented and has really studied his animals.

Thanks for posting the link Bonsai. Great pics. Amazing how common bleached H. mags are there. Fortunately (according the to the text) the anemones regained their color--some of the corals were not as lucky. It's not surprising that a month of 86F would cause some bleaching.

That site is spectacular! I am always looking to expand my knowledge of natural clown/anemone associations. The lone melanopus in the mertensii is fascinating as well as the tricinctus/drascyllus/haddoni super colonies. Thanks so much for posting.

it would be cool if there were a sticky where such good information about clowns and anemones could be stored.

Some of those photos of haddonis seem to have extra large tentacles around the edge of the oral disk, but I've not seen that displayed commonly in aquarium photos.

for example:

Do you folks with them in your aquaria see such super sized tentacles?

Randy,

Funny you say that. In 15 years of keep breeding clowns and keeping anemones. I dont really keep haddoni cause they eat fish.

When i re did my DT with captive bred latz i wanted an anemone that says in the sand, which to me is pretty much haddoni.

When i got my first haddoni i noticed the tentacles around the end like in that pic, now when i look at haddonis most healthy ones have them.

Yes Randy - that is actually one of the species indicators for S. haddoni - long exocoelic tentacles that are longer than endocoelic ones on the rim of the oral disk. Giganteae don't have them.

They typically aren't as pronounced as they are in that individule, and they can come and go. Mine has shown tentacles similar to that in the past, but I haven't see her do this in a very long time.
