Okay okay... will you guys look at this friggin' fish?!?! Craziest and most exciting Pomacanthus hybrid I've ever seen with my own two eyes... I'll leave my already developed opinions out for now as I don't want to influence anyone... what are all your thoughts now?

Sorry guys for the wait... what a fish huh? It really doesn't get more exciting than this... anyway... to my thoughts...
If I had a gun to my head, I'd say xanthometapon/semicirculatus... but input from imperator cannot be ruled out... in my opinion, and with evidence, many of these hybrids are fertile, so input from all three are possible... the fourth species I cannot rule out, only mentioned by massman above) is sextriatus... the ugly duckling of the Euxiphipops subgenus...
Anyway... the face SCREAMS Euxiphipops no? I rule out navarchus only because of the size of this fish... I would think that the adult colors of navarchus would have had to manifested themselves at the fish's size, which is about 2.5 to 3 inches... The ventral fins and anterior portion of the dorsal appear te be Euxiphipops also...
In this below shot I see imperator... but not for sure...
If I watch this fish from across the room, or with my contacts/glasses off, I think semicirculatus... it doesn't have the characteristic imperator behavior... it's tough to say anything with certainty, but this fish has to have at least some semicirculatus in it...
The fish was exported out of Bali, Indonesia... which could mean a lot of places within a few thousand mile radius of there... but it rules out places like Kenya, well known for its soup of Pomacanthus hybridization... like the imperator/chrysurus hybrid pictured on the previous page... also, the four species I mentioned above as possibilities all have distributions around Indonesia... although I had my thoughts developed on the fish before finding this out, so the location just reinforced that...
That emp/chrysurus hybrid image I found on a HK board a while ago and posted it on RC... it's made its way around. Interestingly, Julian Sprung sent me some images recently from a trip he took to Hong Kong... He took a picture of a photo on the wall of an emp/chrysurus hybrid in a shop that sold it... unfortunately the fish has since died... I got excited for the fact that a second specimen of this hybrid was confirmed, until I compared photos and IT WAS THE SAME FISH! Unfortunately it has passed... but what a fish! My wife even likes that one!

I could only be so lucky if my fish grew into something as beautiful as that...
Julian also got excited about my fish... he is in relative agreement with me in regards to this fish... for those that do not know, most people know Julian as the author of the Reef Aquarium books, but he's become a good friend of mine with an opinion on angelfish I respect more than anyone in the hobby... Julian knows his fish and is a fish nerd's fish nerd... for those going to MACNA be sure not to miss his talk... I won't say what its on, but it will be exciting for anyone reading into this thread...

Wasn't that angel availiable at BZ for quite awhile?
Apparently it was from what I'm told... although when I saw it I scooped it up... not bad for under $60... although this little guy was almost half that price...
