(Another) DIY LED Build - Linear Design

Ok n how much was the drivers n all the components for the dimmers

Waqas... those 10 dollar per led estimate includes mostly everything, ie: heatsink, drivers, wires... etc... the controlller is a different thing. Please read page 1 and 2 of this thread.... its mostly there...

Hi katchupoy,

Great thread!

I'm going to buy leds for my tank.
the size of the tank isL

115 Cm long
40 cm wide

How much led do you thing I need?
thinking to go an buy this:

http://www.acriche.com/en/product/prd/zpowerLED.asp

the RB led and the pure White leds.

any advice on the lens degree and other thinks I should consider will be much helpful.

Thank you!

how meany leds should i get to go on my tank its 36x27x29 ? am waniting to get started on it this week if i can ! right now the tank has sofites and lps in it

At 20cm no or 60 degree lenses will probably work. I have not studied to Seoul LEDs so I don't feel I can make a recommendation since I don't know there LED series. But the most efficient Royal Blue and Cool White.

What's the lights spread of different optics at different heights? I'm curious if anyone knows a chart somewhere or something--
And also no optics spread

The closest I can give you is this...

This is just an approximate.

Iziko, sorry Im not familiar with your LEDs so I cant comment on it.

Missed this before, I would always recommend using optics. The light spread IMHO is wide 130 degrees IIRC. The XR-E are better with 90-110 once again IIRC. At 90 degrees for every inch up there is two inches of spread. So all of the light is going to be on the glass and may pass right through.

Note this assumes not water. The angle of refraction is such that the light is refracted into the water, but still a lot is lost.

I'm starting to plan on making a blue light strip. I really like the blue led pop. What I have, 6' x 2' x 20" high tank. Right now I have 8 4' t5 bulbs covering the middle 5ft. blue, purple, white and blue. In the middle of the purple and white I want to put the leds. To cover the the 5ft. I'm thinking 24 leds. To much, not enough? Not sure. I have also thought I could make 2 of these strips and use the t5's, led, purple, led and white or add another led after the white. Would this be enough light? I am on a budget. I have a canopy and the lights will be mounted about 6" off of the water. 80 optics or ? Ant help would be great.

I will be shipping it over to WA Friday. I share a PAR meter, Katchupoy shares info, we all win..

Question to all...

what kind of testing do you want me to do guys with PAR meter...

Air or Water?

Was hoping to do a PAR on 1 LED and then 2 and then 3 and then maybe the whole 1 rail with 12 LEDs on it.

And then with blues, etc...

2.5 inch spacing between LEDs will be a little squeeze on a 5 foot rail... but doable... 2 rails will be wonderful...

katchupoy....

I'm being selfish here...but I'd love to see some numbers from the bottom of your tank and few from mid way up.

I'm planning to duplicate your build this week...so PAR readings of your exact setup would be great!!! lol

Looking forward to seeing your results.

Eric
