Antibiotic Treatment with a S. Gigantea

Looking good.
The bald spot won't come back during treatment but once they are healthy, they will come back. I think right now the anemone is spend all of it's energy staying alive. They may shrink a little instead of growing.
I would put as much light on it as you can. This will help IMO.

i put the LeD's i used to recover that one really really bleached purple one over this one, so i know its enough light for it :P tomarrow will be its first full day of direct light..

Thanks :) you never got back to my Post on CMAS about trading a Mag for a S. gig haha i asked what color Mag's you got :P

Sorry. I do most of my RC surfing on my phone anymore (like I am right now), so I miss a lot. I frequent this forum more so than CMAS. I hope to find some computer time tomorrow and I'll check in on your thread over there. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the updates. Keep those coming as we would all love to see this Gig make its way to recovery. Are you making daily water changes with water from your DT or freshly made?

Also, how about starting a new thread to show off your other collection of gigs and haddoni. Would love to see them.

Thanks.

Not to hijack this thread or anything but I also have is a similar experience treating these anemones with antibiotics . Will post log soon

Everything is going good, he has been on full tank water now with no antibiotic for a full 24 hr's..

i was doing Daily water changes for those who were curios...

3 days at full 250mg / 10g..
2 days at 125mg / 10g
1 days at 60mg / 10g
and from there on out i will do just tank water changes, unless he starts going south again.. but i dont think he will.

he is looking really good in terms of firmness.. and stance, and stickyness...
the only issue im having right now is bleaching, the LeD's i put over him the driver blew up, not sure why, so right now i just have some tacky daytime bulb over him

Yesturday i fed him a small chunk of Raw shrimp, he responded instantly, and ate it..

Also i added another small pump in there for more flow to see how he would hold his firmness against it, and he holds his fold's and stands himself up really well, instead of just being blown over and flapping around, so thats another good sign.

Onto the pictures

This first picture is him receiving light fromy my Display Tank 250w 20k bulb

and these two pictures are with the daylight i put over him (its a 10k look)

all in all, the bleaching is not good i know, but i can recover a bleached anemone as you all know, so im not TOO worried about it, he'll probably be in this tank for 1 more week, and ill probably decide to move him to my DT under 250W bulb, as long as he keeps looking as good as he does... any signs of sickness again and ill start treatment again.

I am just getting back into this hobby after 20 years away. I have to say I'm amazed at some of the things possible now, this thread being one of them. Back in the paleolithic, the anemone in the first photo would have been instantly written off; something to remove and dispose of before it fouled the entire system in its death. Now, given quarantine, antibiotics and good water a S. gig can likely be brought back to health? Especially a gig?(!) Amazing.

It looks like he is doing much better. Bleaching is no problem, especially if you have several gigantea in the system.
I am very happy that he is doing well (better anyway) for you.

He has not deflated since he has started treatment, and since being on just tank water he has not deflated at all yet either..

BUT i may be removing him from Treatment tank a little sooner than i thought and adding him to Display tank... probably this weekend, he has shown really good signs... and settled in nicely.. so i feel comfortable enough to move him to the Display tank..

Pictures..

NOW... im aware drastic bleaching has occured.. and i have a theory behind this..
1) .. obviously..poor lighting since my LeD's burnt out..
2) .. While on the antiobiotic..he was releasing alot of zooxanthallae.. my theory behind this is the antiobiotic was helpiing him release whatever pollutants were inside him.. weather is be Bad Zooxanthallae algae.. or what..

3) .. i am not worried about the bleaching as long as he stays firm like this.. and mouth tight, and he responds to feedings really well now.. im happy.. i can nurse a S. gig back to its color as ive done it before.. and with ones way more bleached than this one..

here's the pictures

the way he can stand himself up... is what keeps me satisfied with this treatment so far..

Wow, excellent work on the husbandry with your animals.... I look forward to making a trip out to your LFS at some point as well :-)

Just another update... i jumped the gun and Last Thursday (1 / 3/ 13 ) i moved him from Treatment tank into the Display tank next to my Purple S. Gigantea...

i know its a risk throwing him with my established S. Gig but i felt confident in the treatment, and in my opinion it will tell if whatever infection was in him is gone and if the treatment really worked..

its been 3 days so far, both gig's are fine, still no deflation from the green one since treatment started... both mouth's are tight, both gigs have really good feeding response

i still dont wanna call it a success story yet though.. ill do that at the 6 month mark :)
