Anyone Breeding

Folks,

I'm curious who is breeding on this board and what. After many years doing less than rewarding work for much more money I'm jumping back into the fray. I'm keeping it small this time around, 1500 ft2. I'm about 6 weeks from having 30 or so broodstock tanks up and running. I'd like to chat PM with SERIOUS breeders that might be interested or have something of interest. I'll be filling these tanks in short order.

P.S. Never thought I would live to see mcchullochi. WOW!

wow, that's a lot of breeding tanks!
I'm interested in getting started. My breeding setup is going to be much smaller than yours though, for sure. Not really looking to make money, but to help keep populations high. I might try with Cardinals and neon gobies as well, for the same reason as above.

You E.intheC...are awesome!!! I agree"¦Seems like everyone is into making some quick cash off of adverts and "œpay per clicks". Money is never the standard where passion is concerned.

Maybe there is a little dust in here that needs to be swept out? Funny thing is this"¦ I quit this passion around 2004. Those of you that know me from the past will know that I am one cantankerous dude. I have been breeding clowns since the 90s. I have been sitting here for more than a month and looking at this site and other cob web filled sites that attempt to make quick cash off of "œpay per clicks", adverts, and conning people into believing that they represent the end all / be all of clownfish, rare clownfish, and/or clownfish breeding. It's all out of this world in depth and hysterics. I find it hysterical that these cobweb filled sites that PLAGIARIZE material from superior boards like Reef Central are filled with nothing and no one who has actually spawned anything "œRARE". Other than mccullochi, all initially done by an Aussie as it well should have, I have seen little progress ever with something as common these days as chrysopterus. I know, the economy"¦right? In spite of the "œECONOMY" some around here have all this "œrare" broodstock, real cool avatars, and have little more than a wink or a nod between mates. How pathetic that you should skulk around and give any advice to "œNewbie's" based on what kind of broodstock and avatar you have. Perhaps you should go back to a more appropriate place to pontificate your expertise in breeding "œRARE" clowns? In any event"¦..Does anyone other than E.intheC have the interest to start a worthwhile discussion or are you "breeders" better equipped at "œpay per clicks", websites, pictures, and nothing more?

BTW.. E.intheC. I too am interested in going after other marines. I was also looking into angles and some smaller wrasses as a trial. People like you are the future.

Lot has changed... but a lot has stayed the same.

Got some people breeding A. mccullochi clowns now... though I have yet to see any that don't have standard beginner defects. But certainly on the right path.

Also some sub-standard CB A. latezonatus floating around. I'm sure they'll get these dialed in as well in the future. Right now none look that good to me.

I like the idea of propogating anemones, especially because of their almost indefinite lifespan in the wild, and the almost exact opposite track record in the majority of hobby tanks. That's a goal of mine as well, but I'm not naive enough to think that I'll be successful right off the bat.

I haven't started breeding clowns yet, but will start off shortly (I hope, anyway).. and I plan on starting with one or two of the 'rare' ones, like the picasso or snowflake. Not because they can be sold at a much higher value, but simply because I personally like them more than others. If I were to sell these, it'd be for a much, much lower price than they're going for now. (If I could get them to look as pretty as the ones out there, that is). I'd be interested in black and white / orange clownfish spawning as well.

The most upseting thing is that we need to have people to propagate anemones, and when we get em they try, fail, give up and get out of the hobby!Well Im here to say that I am goin to stick with it and am not going to give up and will strive to keep the best and only the best(ya,ya I know I will not have the best but am going to try anyway...lol).I plan on doing a smaller breeding system of 3 to 4 hundred gallons but may have to down size!I hope not!

I missed you BonsaiNut! No harm, but I'd say one thing has changed and not much else is different? Maybe? You were always the voice of reason and sanity.

1Der9 3Hy,

I have seen this site, nice to not have pay per clicks and ads, But…nothing real new where the clown world is concerned. Where are the folks spawning chrysopterus, tricinctus, ect?

E.intheC,

All things are possible. My newest philosophy is if you are going to have a $500.00 per month electric bill you should at least do something productive!

Again… “I HAVE 30 BROODSTOCK TANKS TO FILL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE PEOPLE P.M. ME THAT ARE INTERESTED IN THE POSSIBILITY OF OBTAINING RARE BROODSTOCK.” ANYONE?????

i am very interested in breeding, however i am a beginner to breeding, i have a mated nanggi cardinal pair but i cant seem to get the male to hold the eggs, and i cant seem to keep the eggs alive if i strip them, however i am not giving up.

so i will be tagging along on this thread

If ya dont mind me asking, takers for what?If we are trying to breed "rare" clowns I would be all for it but I think I may be misunder standing you!

Ive just set up a small scale coral prop system, with the intention to do anemone propagation and a few corals, and Ive got 3 A. percula pairs that are either both juvenile still or a mature female/juvenile male. I would like to do nigripes also, but need to learn the basics first with what Ive already got on hand.

I'm breeding 5 pairs of ocellaris ,1 tomato, 1 gold stripe maroon, 1 black & white & orchid dottybacks. I have 5 more pairs of b&w not spawning yet. I'm doing it as a side income & for the challange, but I make way more $ with my day job. My water bill is over &200.00 a month & electric is over $500.00 in the summer. I spend an hour in the am, 1 hour in the pm, & Fri.,Sat., & Sun., cleaning fish tanks, moving fish, & water changes. I'm not complaning, but I'm not getting rich. And I'm selling over 100 fish a month to the lfs, & shipping. I like what I'm doing but I need my day job to support my side job.

Hiya Eco,

Nice to see the bug biting you again :)

Pair of 'gasters, but I'll have to pass on any fry for raisin' to that talented local lady with the blue thumb ;>) Time has not been kind to me the last year or so.

Nigripes were crankin', but I killed the female and oddly enough eggs stopped showing up. Stud for hire.

ORA B&W ocellaris continue to be reliable, but have not been spending time rearing them.

Rest of my pairs have been distributed as I downsized over the years.

All the best and hope to be around a bit to watch your collection grow :)

Scott

reefstew,

Sounds familiar. I have the time and capitol to put a full time deal together, but I guess I am more than fortunate. Every little bit helps folks. Anemone's, clowns, cardinals, etc. all of it is very good.

I had preferred to discuss this via PMs and any other details would have to be done off the board. When I say "œtakers" I mean that I will invariably have some bleed over from some shipments I plan to do. I have some old but viable contacts in Mauritius, Arabian Gulf, AU, and various points throughout the Pacific. I have offered trump payment to these folks for broodstock. The problem I had in the past is that I had to take whatever they sent. It is hard to do even a half order of just clowns. In the past I had a lot of juvies and would often take other types of fish. So as not to violate the board rules, I am not soliciting sales but merely asking if there is any interest.

I was informed of your gasters by a certain someone. I'd like to fly the unnamed party out here to work with me but I doubt I could afford it! Man, talk about the touch. Good to see some folks are still in the game.

It will take some looking, but there is a german fellow on mofib breeding latz (last i read, attempting at least...he was having trouble with the larval stages)... I think his name is Peter, but i cant remember his last name.

Dont limit yourself to amphipron/premnas. While there is still some 'virgin' frontier there, most of the new stuff will be had with other regular aquariums species like anthias/wrasses/gobys/jaw fish/cardinals.

Also peruse rareclownfish.com, there is some info that might be useful to you on there.

Thanks for the info. I've been breeding clowns since the early 90s. Just getting back into it after a 5 year break. I checked out "rareclownfish.com" some time ago: Not my cup of tea, but again..thanks. I'll be doing centropyge as well. I'll be getting chrysogaster, tricinctus, chrysopterus, and maybe something that will blow everyone's mind. I think this is 'virgin' enough? We shall see.
