Anyone ever done an Anemone / CLown only tank

I am kicking around the idea of making my 35g bowfront into an Anemone/Clownfish only tank with multiple species of both.

I am looking at housing a Carpet Anem, RBTA, Sabae, and possible a couple tube anems. I will also have a few different types of clowns as well.

If anyone has done this, tell me about your experience, and if possible, post a picture of your tank

Thanks Very Much.

In a tank that small, you'll never be able to have more than 2 clowns. They get mean. I've got 2 maroons in a 45 and they own the whole tank

As far as Clownfish, I was thinking something like a mated pair of Black and White Oc's, and a mated pair of either Regular Oc's or a pair of Perc's. I will gradually add the nems over a span of at least six months, but I will add all four fish at the same time in an attempt to minimize fighting. I will more then likely avoid Maroons because of the size and attitude. I love the Maroons, but would rather have more then just one or two fish in this tank.

What do you think?

I'd suggest you do not try and add 2 pair of clowns to a tank that small. If you are going to gamble, then what i would do is get 4 clown juveniles that come from the same raised tank as young as you can get them. At least that way, these fish have been together initially and maybe you'll get lucky and they will remain peaceful as adults....which is unlikely imo.

IMO, this is a bad idea. In a 35 gallon tank (( and for most tanks )) I would only suggest doing one pair of clowns. Having more might work for the short term, but, IME, you will end up with one pair of clowns.

As for the anemones, what type of "carpet" ? Either way, in a 35 gallon tank, I would only keep one species of anemone, trying more then one species will most likely cause a lot of issues.

I definitely second this, unless it is different BTA variations.

agreed, 1 pair of clowns. and a pair of clowns wont own a 35 gal, you could maybe get 1 or 2 more fish in there. a pygmy angel would be cool with the clowns. if they are marroons, they will own the tank

i am not sure if a carpet in a 35g bowfront is that good of an idea. Do you plan to upgrade to a larger tank? I guess it will be fine but with other anemones they are going to duke it out. Some carpets get pretty large and they will easier outgrow that tank.

Definitely only one pair clowns, and a sebae or carpet will take up that whole tank, I'd go 1-2 BTAs.
Other fish would be limited, maybe a pair of Bangaii's, but you could add nem inverts to add spice, porcelain crab, white spot nem shrimp, sexies...

+2 A 35G tank is quite small. Much too small to be mixing species. But look at iamcosmokramer's thread ("new anemone tank") for a great example of how spectacular a tank can look with just one pair of clownfish and multiple colors of BTAs. You also won't have to worry about aggression between clownfish species or anemone species.

Adding anything more than a pair of clowns in a 35g is asking for a fight (clown wise atleast) maybe a pygmy angel along with them would look nice

a carpet will outgrow the tank once it starts thriving. A Tube anemone might end up eating your fish. I would suggest you do several BTAs or an H. Malu, those are really cool

As its already been said, wouldnt go with more than 1 pair of clowns. I also like the look of a tank with different BTA. I personally have a seperate 20long with a bonded pair of B&W O's, multiple RBTA, a mated pair of bangaii cardinals and a pygmy african flameback angel that all get along well. The whole point of this tank was that my main display already had a mated pair of regular O's, S. Haddoni and BTA, and I didnt want to risk any aggression.

Occ and Percs in the same tank have not worked for me or people I know.

I have a pair of latz and percs in a 120 and they are fine. I think because the Latz wont host the nem and the percs do. That being said the percs never seem to venture far from their host unless I am feeding. Even then they will only venture out for the food the gets close to the nem - about 8-10 inches away.

Where are you in Texas? If you are in Houston or close I will be glad to show you my setup and link you with a few that have tried keeping occ and percs.

If you want any nems let me know. There is a great source in Houston and they may ship. They have a clown/anemone tub with percs and latz with 6-7 carpets and over 20 BTA's.

I agree with the majority, one pair of clowns is the ideal solution. If you cannot live with that then maybe consider buying 2 juvi black and white ocellaris and two juvi orange occellaris and introducing them at the same time. The dominate fish will become the female and the next dominate fish will become the male. The bad news is the the other two become second class citizens. Stress on the the two smaller fish is high but it doesn't become a fight to the death senerio. Also you may get a pair of black O's, orange O's or a mixed pair.

I actually have a 110g Anemone tank for fish I have 2 clowns and 2 cardinals.
for anemones I have 2 carpets 1 small haddoni and one large 1 gbta 1 rbta 1 long tentical and 1 condylactis and some corals 2 torch's 1 small frogspawn a purple finger leather a orange monti cap a small baby blue acro and a birdsness frag. Also I have six anemone crabs and four peppermint shrimp that hitchhiked off of some live rock out of a sump so far there has not been a problem but I don't trust the shrimp. I will take some pics later and post them until then heres a night time shot of the large carpet and a close up of the condy.

reefsmart, those look really nice, except I have a bed rep with porcelain crabs, they always seem to find a way to kill my clowns..
