Hope the way I calculated it made sense to everyone. If all were OK with it, then if it needs to be re-done due to differences in actual shipping here is how I did it:
Total= items +shipping (that part is simple)
To calculate shipping:
Total shipping - discount = shipping to be split
Each contribution=
X lbs weight of personal order / total weight = fraction each individual pays.
Shipping x fraction = $ for each persons shipping (should add up to total shipping).
Most items weighed a pound, but some might be more or less.
This way- we are each paying our part of the shipping, and the relative discount is reflected in the contribution of purchase towards that discount. Hope that seems fair.
