Well I bought one thinking it was a coral beauty Angel but it was to late becasue he was in tank, not knowing if both were reef safe.LOL....I know all angel pick at coral but I think mine is picking at my sps becasue these pass 3 months poly extension is not the same as it was 6 months ago. Maybe it could be something else wrong but I dont see red bugs and I don"t see aefw. Maybe my po4 is not were i want it (.08)but something is wrong and I am thinking its this Flame angel....

What is weird is my milli and sylo have great extension but not all my acros look the same..... People say it looks great but I know its not?

I have pygmy angels in my tank and there is no polyp extension. That is almost going to be a certain thing with all angels. My angels do nip but no damage is done. Corals continue to grow and polyps come out at night. To me polyp extension is not a big deal as long as corals look healthy and are growing. Good luck.

I have two, one a flame, and yes they pick. Not everything but they will try most. They seem to prefer acros with large bushy polyps. Say goodbye to extreme daytime PE :mad2:

+1 here. I've been trying to catch mine for sometime for this reason. Sneaky little buggers about it too, took me a while to catch him in the act. SPS still live and grow, but with little/no daytime PE. IMO, just don't do it if you want your SPS to look their best. :headwallblue:

Yes definitely flame angels/coral beauty will pick at corals unless you have a selfsustainming and your coral can handle a little nipping. Thats why if you look on youtube and you see a guy with a queen with an sps dominated tank the fish cant choose which sps to eat they simply become confused. Yes, here and there there will be a tip bit but thats all, its a risk.

I have a flame, lemon peel, regal and a juvenile Emperor angel in my SPS reef. My flame angel is so hyper, that he takes a peck here and a peck there as he flies around my tank, weaving in and out of the coral and rock work. I love watching this guy doing his thing, and I have grown to tolerate his picking.

The lemon peel rarely picks at anything, and my regal never does. My Emperor typically hangs out waiting for food "handouts" from me. He does disappear into the rock work once in awhile, most likely hunting for sponges or other stuff.

My daytime polyp extension is somewhat nonexistent, except on the inside of colonies where the pickers can't reach. All of my colonies are healthy and polyps do extend at night.

I love my angels, so polyp extension is not a real issue for me.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

if you put him in it is very difficult to catch him out

If you are serious about SPS I strongly suggest staying away from angels. Most angels will pick at the SPS so much that they will pretty much shutdown. They wont die, but you will have little to almost no growth and no PE at all. Without PE I personally think corals dont look nearly as good as ones with full blown extention.

I have lived and learned from the Angels. Theres is no way I could of achieved everything I have if I still had my Flame and Koran. It took a massive tank drain, alot of freaking out, cussing and a few cuts to get them out.

my flame and coral beauty is fine, they picked at live rock but do not like my orange. Beautiful fish but prefers corals over rods food.

No problems with my flame angel, but my PBT likes to bite everything.

My flame leaves my sps alone, but liked to nip at my pink cynarina. I made a cage of eggcrate to cover it up for a few weeks and started feeding the fish 3 times a day and now he leaves everything alone even with the cage gone.
