Anyone know anything about these Vodka dosing pellets

Well I thought I would jump right in. Just got off the phone with Jon from Warner Marine and ordered a liter to try. This product would reduces phosphates and nitrates. I'll keep you posted on the progress

Be careful when using these additives Bob, you will need to monitor and keep log of your tests/addition, overdose and your will have a major problem on your hand. Nothing is better than stability and regular maintenance IMO. I wouldn't go to Vodca or sugar or other additives to solve my tank problems.

Your tank went through a major change, it will take time for it to recover to show improvements.

I probably used the wrong term. These are phosphate/nitrate reducer pellets. They work the same way as GFO,but also reduce nitrate.

I hear you Tom. I've always done the maintenance and tested regularly. Which I will continue to do. I just figured I'd try it to see how it would work. What I didn't kill I put in Jake's tank so there's really no where to go but up!

I am interested to see how these work out for you Bob. I haven't seen how they differ from dosing other carbon source, i.e. vodka, vinegar, sugar, but I have seen some people getting good results from them. It seems like they offer a localized carbon source and a place to host the necessary bacteria. I am dosing vodka right now but looking into these other carbon sources to see if there are advantages.

Bob, I echo Tom's cautionary warning. Your tank seems to have gotten better after removing your double carbon reactor and now it seems you would be adding another carbon source. I read the post to which you linked and while it sounds like maybe a neat product, I'd let others work the kinks out at first, especially after maybe having gained some ground on the condition of your tank.

Bob I'm going to have agree with the guys on just letting things stabilize for a while first before you start anything new happening in the tank for your fish and corals to deal with ,just my opinion

Ok I started using the product yesterday,I'm going to run it in a reactor by itself with GFO for a couple weeks until the bacteria builds up and then pull the GFO.

Within a couple hours the skimmer starting pulling more slightly darker skimmate. The return from the reactor is near the skimmer intake so as to skim out what the pellets turn the Nitrate and Phosphate into.
