Anyone Switch BACK to MH/T5 from LED?

Yes, only really needed for sticks. I keep my LPS at 150 PAR or lower.

10% is really minimal when talking about only a 35 PAR difference. I've placed my MOP frag up where it is getting 700 PAR. WT said it must be blasted with light to get the blue plasma look, so I'm giving it a try.

im not buying their b.s. they still have not provided pics of their mop colony. right now its as blue and purple as it can be.

that's very interesting, as I did not know that...
I've read a few "review" articles that specified using an Apogee Quantum par meter but never mentioned adjusting the readings...

what is it about the light source that would create a false reading?

its about the blue leds not being read properly

There is nothing on my Apogee meter to calibrate or adjust it. It's on/off.

I've only read/heard that PAR meters aren't picking up all the PAR on Blue LEDs only, not whites.

thats an old apogee model. yes it doesnt read all the blues

Right!!!! haha

Gotcha, I just googed apogee, yep old one. the new ones are yellow, this one is red.

Well, paid for the Radion fixtures. Got a little but of $$ off MSRP and decided to go for it. At least the resale value will still be there if I decide I don't like them.

Where did you order the radion fixtures from? I'm leaning toward those ones. Thanks!

After the answers that Tim (President of EcoTech) gave in their sponsor forum today I'm even more excited about getting this light. It seems like it is nearly future proof in terms of XM-L or even newer upgrades as well! Can't wait for mid-October.

SkullV, update us when you get the fixture. I was checking it out at MACNA and it looks quite nice. Let me know how it works out for you!!

Will do! According to the supplier I am in the first shipment so it should be sooner rather than later.

Exciting man! I already have the ballasts for my 180 but im debating it. I figure ill need 3 fixtures and I can save on costs in the long run

i have been mh for 20 years, tried out 5 ai sol for 8 months on a 48 x48x35 reef tank. Im back to one radium 400 hqi in a good reflector on that tank. I didn't like the disco ball effect, or the color. it really was not much less wattage on the cube tank. I think they save money on power on rectangular tanks. I was getting shadowing on the sides of my larger corals. Since led doesn't have a reflector its limited on spread vs mh with lumenbrites. and 430 watts mh vs 350 for the 5 sol fixtures is minimal savings. $2000K led vs $90 bulb and reflector and ballasts I already had. I didn't like the color or the growth and shadowing on the sides of my larger taller corals. I think LED will get there but haven't seen one I like better yet. The ecotech are probably the best IMO for coloration and looks. I think LED can be done right but it needs banks of lights over the whole tank. Canar on this form has the only led tank i have seen in person and though it really looked well lit, he has a huge 10foot by 4 foot tank and diy led's aimed down and on angles.

Nothing beats the growth that MHs achieve IMO. Most of the professionals that do this for a living have stayed with MH. Unfortunately on this site, you get attacked if you aren't doing what's popular or "in" at the time. Opinions are just that. Some swear by led while others MH. You just have to see what works for you.

I'm kinda hesitant to go back.. I cheaped out and bought some LEDs on eBay. I think its the Evo Quad Led. The fish behave the same way ( I don't have any corals) but I think my anemone is not happy. Its stuck fast to the live rock but hopefully ill be able to move it to another spot.

My electricity bill is about $30 cheaper.. -.-

I love leds because of how they rev up and down for a nice dawn and dusk but I wont ever use anything else for high noon than 400w MHs. so far im happy with my MH and LED combo. best of both worlds.
