Have not posted here in a while; thought I would just give an update on my wp40s...
I have had one of them for 14 months now (bought new June 2013) and it has been running on my 90g constantly since then. I have not noticed any 'slowdown' in performance as some others have mentioned. I do remove it to clean the outside of coralline buildup about every 3 - 4 months. I have not had to remove the housing or cleaned the impeller. It has never broken down or stopped working.
A couple of caveats, which may (or may not) make a difference:
- I run pretty much in W1 S1 mode only. I tried the others; honestly, I became interested in this pump because of the 'wavemaker' capability -so that is how I run it.
- I do not use the light sensor, I never installed it. So, running speed is constant
- I do utilize the feed mode several times a week. it has never failed to restart afterwards
My second wp40 I bought new in September 2013 (so almost a year old now) and at first I used it constantly, also in the 90g... had the 2 pumps alternating from opposite ends of the tank. Did not see any great benefit to that (vs. a single pump) so I have relegated the 2nd wp40 to mixing WC water duty. It only gets used a couple of days a month. I run it on H1 S1 first 24 hrs to thoroughly mix the water; then on 'else' mode until I actually do the WC (usually within a day or 2). Again, no problems with starting it up even sitting dry for 3 weeks at a time.
My local Club did a group buy back in June 2013 (that is how I got my first wp40). Purchased 65 pumps in all (45 wp40s, 12 wp25s, 8 wp60s). Informally, based on susequent postings on my local Message Board... zero failures that I know of. Well, one, but he dropped his on a tile floor, and it cracked the housing...
I also run a dc9000 return pump. Since September as well. Dead quiet; zero issues...

You know, I've thought about this, and...
I don't think that a 'wave' motion in an aquarium puts any additional stress on the tank structure...
Well, not an appreciable amount.
My reasoning is this: Stress is determined mainly by depth pressure in the aquarium. So, the only additional pressure would be the added height (depth) of water achieved during the apex of a 'wave'... which is only maybe a half inch to one and a half inches of difference (depending on how strong your 'wave' action is)... if your tank is 24 inches deep, an extra inch depth during each 'wave' is only about a 4% difference. And keep in mind the convex of the 'wave' is a decrease in pressure by about the same amount.
It's not like we are crashing waves against the glass, as ocean waves crash against the shoreline. And we are not adding or removing any actual water volume, just oscillating the displacement of it.

I am wondering what everyone recommends: I have a wp40 on my 120 gallon tank right now. I am building my 250 gallon tank. I was thinking wp60 with twin controller. I also thought the wp40 not sure which to go with. Advice/opinion would be great. The tank dimensions are 96x24x24 (8'x2'x2').
Both of my pumps now do NOT work !!!! They were in use for less than a year. I am very disappointed. I am in contact with a Jebao representative. I will post their response...hoping they will replace both pumps.

What you'll most likely see is that Jebao will not do anything.
If they do respond at all it will be to say they are sorry and direct you to the retailer you got it from.
Unlike the US the Chinese manufacturers don't deal with warranties and replacements, the have the retailers do it.

I purchased my pump as part of a group buy with the Atlanta Reef Club....we purchased over 100 pumps directly from Jebao......
I have 2 wp40s on my 96x36x25" not nearly enough flow, for me. I am getting two wp60s that I will run alongside the wp40s.

Weekly water change tonight and I realized the wp40 wasnt working. Thats 2 in a little over a year. Controller still light up and buttons work but the pump wont do anything. I've taken them apart and cleaned them. I can get one to spin but as soon as you move it it stops.
After 18 months, controlled through my Apex, acting as a wave maker, I just lost a motor unit. Contacted Fish Street and they have what they call a custom order. Two motor units for $50.00 shipping included. Now that's motor only no cover or impeller/propeller, or mount but, of course those pieces are still good. So I guess I have another year and 1/2 to go before I upgrade.

In my case, the electric motor would no longer turn the propeller. I switched all components w/o solving the issue. Seems just to loose power. If I spin the prop, sometimes, it seems to try to spin maybe getting 1 or 2 revolutions and stops again. Since I use a custom control program, the unit starts & stops every 5-7 seconds 24 7. That's a lot wear.

Actually ...between both clubs we purchased almost 200 pumps combined directly from Jebao.
UPDATE: Jebao is outright ignoring me....so I guess their customer service is non-existent. I emailed them several times....and after their suggestion to purchase another pump, (VERY HELPFUL), I never heard back from them after several attempts.

Sounds like many people that bought them have them fail at around a year, including myself. Not sure if I'll be buying one again when I get my 125gal set up. I don't like buying parts with such short expiration dates. Too bad, the price is excellent, and when they work, they work extremely well.
