Anyone use Wavyseas? I'm planning a 180 soon!

Hey guys, I'm planning a 180/210 soon and not sure on how I want to set up my flow. The tank will be BB and I plan on having some SPS and LPS and my beloved Yellow and Purple tang! So high flow is a must. The WavySea looks very attractive with the moving heads, but, I dont know how sturdy they are. I'm not against doing a closed loop system either, or Tunze for that matter! But the WavySea system has my attention. Any thoughts would be great.

Wavy Seas!!!!

Wavy Seas!!!!

I have a 210 Oceanic with 2 wavy seas as my returns with an Iwakai 55 RLT. They work great!! Give a varied flow throughout the tank and it is always random never the same. I have had them in service for 4-5 months no problems. I am using the spa flex tubing to connect to them. Any other question feel free to ask.

I only have a 75 gal. but I love my wavysea--no problems in the 9 months i've been using it. I would use two on opposite corners on separate closed loops.

Just curious why on two seperate closed loops. Thinking of setting up something similiar.

I would just like the fact that I wouldn't have to rely on one pump as far as breakage goes. Plus, you can leave one going while you clean one.
I just helped my freind set up his 120 with 2 wavyseas on the same pump and you pretty much need to run piping from one end of the tank to the other. Kinda clutters stuff up. Plus, you really need to valve the first one to keep it from pushing more flow than the one farther down the line.

I was thinking of running two at opposite corners on seperate pumps from the return pumps. I was considering running a couple of mag 5's or 7's for the Wavyseas, drill a feed hole at the lower corner of each end of the tank and mount the mag pumps on the outside of the tank and run a line straight up the back to the Wavysea. What cha think?

My wavy seas are located on the glass brace that runs across the middle of the tank. They are approx. 1/3 from the end of each end of the tank. They are set ot rotate about 145 degrees each and at two different speeds. I also have one large powerhead in the top left corner. I don't recall who makes it. you have to remember that my tank is 7 ft. long so I need a little bit extra for flow and the powerhead helps with that and the random flow when the wavy seas interact with the flow from the powerhead. Hope that this helps. Now that I have them I wouldn't do my returns any other way.

I like the way I have mine. This way you can rotate the way seas more. If you are to stick them in the corner you will only be able to get 90 or so degrees of rotation. I did have to make an adapter from plexiglass to mount them on the glass brace though.

What type of tank are you going to have, glass or acrylic?

What are the dimensions?

What type of lights?

What kind of skimmer?

I would personally go with one pump and external of the sump also. this way you are not introducing more heat into the tank than you have to. Look at the Pan World pumps, I have heard that they are good. Iwakis are nice also.

I bought the tank as a complete system fish, corals, rock, tank and all from someone. I added the wavyseas after I had gotten the tank..

I do not have the original returns hooked up any more, just the wavy seas..

I currently have a 90. I'm in the planning stages of a 180/210. its gonna be glass. probably 6x2x2 or 7x2x2 or 6x2x2.5 not sure yet! lights with be MH with either VHO or T5s and the skimmer is undecided. I'm looking into the Precision Marin Bullit series or MRC, I want an externally mounted skimmer and calcium reactor. I'm thinking about having the tank built by Glass cages, rather than buying a pre-made tank and having it drilled. Like I said, I'm in the planning stages! I'm gonna start buying the equipment soon!

The more thought I put into it the more I realize the mag 5 or 7 probably will not give me near the flow I want. I'll probably end up using one pump dedicated to the wavyseas with ball valves and one drain hole in the tank. I know very little about the dart or iwakai pumps, so any insite would be great!

Yes, unfortunately, they do lose their programming when the power goes out--that's the only thing I don't like about them.

My buddy just hooked two wavyseas up to his Dart on a closed loop--worked great, but that was only a tap water test--so who knows in the long run.

Personally, I love the Iwaki pump that I've been using non-stop for the last five years--the last 8 months on a wavysea. All I've had to do is clean it from time to time. I'm running a 30 (1140 g/hr) on my wavysea and I'm very pleased.

i have had mine for three months

i am very impressed with it, the only thing that bothers me is the loss of pregraming when power goes out, kind of annoying but i live with it

shrimp are behaving more nauraly since i have had it and they are pregneant much more than normal
