Sure, I've got something. I've been topping off for about 8 months now with fully saturated kalk and it has kept my ca at 420 and kh at 8. Now it's winter here in PA and my ATO is going nuts. I have dropped my kalk back to half saturation but yesterday my kh was 10. I have not noticed any difference in most of my coral but do not want swings like this occuring. I added some RO to my already weak kalk but am not sure how much to keep my saturation since the amount of top off used seems dependant largely on when it snows.

I am having another problem specific to zoas, but I am looking into it with possibly being too close to some LPS. If I can't figure it out I'll post pics.

OK I will play along. I am experimenting with my tank, I recently stopped skimming for 1 week prior to my zoes seemed fine, short and close to the base bright in color and otherwise fine. now 1 week later my zoes are slightly taller but much fatter or fuller color has stayed the same. I have noticed my 2 polyp frag of red magicians has stayed partially closed though not all the way but its skirt is barely visible not sure why. I feed 2x a week wed and sunday. I have also noticed more babies being produced this week not sure if this is due to the new routine or just coincidence but I will keep this up for 1 more week then start skimming again for 2 weeks and see if I can measure the difference. sorry for lack of pics. Also my tank temp has lowered some due to the recent cold it is now around 75 where it used to stay at 78-79, not sure if this plays into anything though im sure it does.

It gets down to 75 in Florida???! ;)

treesmoker has been doing a good job bringing new items to our club. My red and purple hornets are growing (slowly, but growing) and my Utter Chaos utterly ridiculous. Life is good. Trading is good. Whose got Space Monsters?

My purple deaths have been moping since I fragged them a month plus ago. Neither fully closed nor fully open. Grrrr.

I had a big scare last week, I looked at my tank and my nuclear green colony which I grew out from about 5 polyps to over 60 (never fragged) looked terrible. I also had a small colony of pink and gold on there that also looked terrible. Nothing else in the tank looked different and I had done nothing different in the tank. It was time for a dip.

I took the whole piece of live rock out (maybe the size of a cantalope) and prepared a dip of one packet furan II and 4 capfuls of revive. Dipped the coral for about 15 mins and back into the tank it went. I then carefully went through what was left in the dip but really only found a ton of amphipods. Roughly 24 hours later everything was perfect with the zoos. They look great now and have continued to spread. So that was fun.

Actually it got down to 26 the other night...of course the house I keep around 66-68 I like it cold but cant afford to keep it that way during the summer, that's why I love winter.

I just learned that even though it's winter you have to request a heat pack for your shipped zoas lol that hurt my wallet!

I agree, things have been DEAD! We need a good topic of discussion, something to keep things going for awhile - anybody have any thoughts?

Sorry, don't know much about ATOs, I drip KalkWasser - same saturation year round. Whats in your tank besides zoas?

I run one tank skimmerless, getting good growth from various zoas, but have to stay on top of PWCs.

Tell him to bring us some new topics for discussion LOL. I got SM, but not doing any trading at the moment, weather is too cold, and its too close to Christmas for reliable shipping.

Nothing else showed up? Can't imagine the Pink -n- Golds looking bad, them things grow like weeds LOL! Sure wish I could get enough nutrients moved out to get them back to their original bright colors.

Ouch - yeah thats a tough one. I just got a shipment in the other day - four days in transport (Stupid USPS!) - amazingly however, I got at least one frag and a few polyps here and there on the others that look like they will pull through.

I started as a zoa fanatic and have been for the past two years. I am now experimenting with sps and lps. I am enjoying it so far and enjoy the new chanllenge. We will see how the next year goes but if it doesn't work out maybe I will be back in this forum more.

Just keep selling your zoas and I'll be happy

I've been getting into LPS and I'm finding it's easier then Z & P's lol

LOL, that is awesome. Lesson one in LPS and SPS, they all go higher in the tank(for the most part) than zoas do. The bottom half of my tank is still zoas, and always will be. Good to hear from ya and let me know how those PHs are doing.

Lesson #2 with LPS, watch the alk swings, and stay on top of water changes. You think Z's and P's melt, they ain't got nothing on LPS.

I was also amazed that the pink and gold looked bad, they have spread like a virus. I am getting them close to colored up but they are pretty low in the tank. The amazing thing I have seen with them is the stretch off the plug and attach to the rock and start growing from wherever they touch. Have never seen zoas do that but they are cool looking. I don't think I will ever get them to full potential as they are low in the tank under T5s. Maybe when I switch to LEDs I can get the colors to pop.

Someone told me that to regain the pink outer ring, you have to get your nitrates, nitrites and ammonia to zero - can't say for sure, just what I was told.

I have just starting my own polyps collection

Nice! Be sure and post us some pictures as your collection grows.
