Aptasia

I use Distilled White Vinegar injected with a Hypodermic Needle that works great. You just got to make sure that you aren't over using your vinegar or you can experience parameter problems. But the same thing holds true when using Kalk, Sodium Bicarbonate, or Calcium Chloride.
 
I would also think that vinegar would be safer for the tank as well. I will probably wait until after my fish meeting so I will have plenty to pull out for BAP, then I will kill the rest.
 
Peppermint shrimp killed off mine also I 've been told that a certain butterfly fish will do the job.

Not sure, but the camelbacks will mess with your corals.
 
Well since I just started putting coral into the tank I guess I should pull the camel out. Its been a good tankmate so far.
 
If memory servers, I believe camels need a colder temp. to flourish, I've never used them since my tank stays failry warm for their taste.
 
I used to use plain hot water (boil it, bring the pan to the fish tank) and a syringe, shoot it directly on the Aptasia. That worked, but I've switched to Joe's Juice, works better. I've found peppermint shrimp are great for killing the small ones and stopping them from spreading, but they won't go after the already established large ones.
 
That can't possibly be true, eh? I'd suggest that if you want anyone from the saltwater world to take the BAP program seriously, that you NOT add Aiptasia as a breeding item.
 
It is a stupid leftover in our BAP program that Aptasia are worth 5 points. Why anyone would want to cultivate them is beyond belief unless they want them to feed a copperbanded butterfly.

So I will take 6 to a meeting and we will probably kill them there at the meeting. We will probably have a small discussion on killing them and the different techniques available to do such.

People culture these all the time to breed and raise Berghia Nudibranchs. It's quite a profitable and booming business for those that are successful.
 
G. since you are the chairman of the BAP program, why dont you just remove it. Its hardly an accomplishment. In fact the reverse would be more laudible. The eradication of such from captive systems.

My purpose in bringing the 6 to a meeting was a joke, something the SW people in the club would (or should) find humorous. I would not count them in my points total or use it to complete the catagory but to point something out.

It is removed in the latest BAP edition but it has not been voted on yet. I will not submit anything for a vote until I raise some baby SW fish to determine if all SW fish are or should be worth 40 points.
 
I have had good luck using pickling lime and showering them with a hypodermic needle. The draw back is that this is just a never-ending control method. It does not cure the problem. I have also tried peppermint shrimp, but my puffer just eats them.
