aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

That's some good skimming!

Thanks

could have let it go a while longer but unfortunately a neck cleaner cant be used on these. Had to clean because of build up.

Love this skimmer! most quiet I've used (I've used many!), starts up without any sound every time and is really a set and forget for me which I like alot.

Sucks that Aquamaxx continually has shipment delays!!!!!

Hopefully we'll be seeing these on shelves again next week like the info indicates.

Still considering this skimmer lol it's impossible to get one. However one is available. If you had a 75g mixed reef 8-10 small medium fish would you put this skimmer on it? Or keep the ro diablo xs160 I have?

Hi drew2007

I wouldn't hesitate to run a CO-1 on a 75. It would perform great!

Are you having issues with the 160? Hard to get dryer skimmate?

FWIW, Looks like tracking is starting to come in from MD for some of the pre-orders.

Evidently the shipment made it to the U.S.

looks like good news for the patient!

My CO-3 was shipped yesterday!! I ordered it back in 2013!

So excited - I think I made a great choice judging by all the reviews on this brand.

I think the CO-3 on a mixed reef 220g will be a really nice fit.

looking forward to a review. Since there are very few threads on the 2 and 3, it would be nice to see some more detailed descriptions.

I have a C0-1 running on a 75g right now and I am about to upgrade to a 120g, this thing is pulling some serious crap out of my 75g already and I just cycled it and have no fish! and I did the whole acid, seaklear, 0 phosphate thing to the rock. I will try it on the 120g and see how it does, I like it because it fits in my first sump chamber perfect and allows me to have a huge refugium.

Cool! It's a sick little skimmer isn't it? I'm still impressed with mine.
It should do a fine job in the early stages of the 120. It may struggle to idle as stocking levels increase-But who Knows? It may work out fine for your application and stay a while. There are a few 100gl + people out there that are running them (CO-1's) with no issues on mixed reef systems.

Never any issues with it. It's just a bit oversized for my setup and it's a tight squeeze in my sump lol yea it's a lil hard to dial it in perfect for a drier skim but I've been running a lil wetter lately.

I hear ya! 6" body with 600+/-lph will need some heavier stocking levels in a smaller tank in order to get real stinky. Did you do the return pipe mod on the 160? I read that while it helps quiet the splashing sound, it also has some not so good effects on the tunability. Just curious

I just added a 90 degree street elbow along with the adapter they give with it to put it below water line. I may list it for sale and see if someone will bite. Although I may upgrade to a 120g but I got my eyes on the coneS co2 or co3

sound good! I love getting fun reef mail!! MD shows the CO3 in stock now. I'm sure they will be updating the site soon with the others. Unless of course this shipment aquamaxx was talking about was small and pre-orders swallow them up. I cant imagine Aquamaxx would only send out a small shipment after such a long wait though.

ya, the more I think about it the more I will probably keep and use on my 120. I have my C0-1 up for sale, but it is brand spanking new (never seen water) and I refuse to just give it away :).

looks like everywhere is sold out already (again)! Trying to snag a CO-2 for my new 120+60 SPS tank

pretty sure there's a shop in canada that has them if you're willing to pay a little more for shipping.

PM me and I'll give you the info

I'm really liking my Aquamaxx CO-1 Skimmer. I've been meaning to share how much I like it but I keep cleaning it and forgetting to take pics before I do.

I had to play with the height of the skimmer and I think I still may have to raise it a bit. As a few other reefers have stated, the silencer tends to suck in water at it's current height and that really sends my OCD senses crazy. Since you can't disassemble that part of the skimmer, there is not much one can do about it. The skimmer is silent and I never hear it.

I have broken it down to clean a few times and you should probably know that you will need a screw driver when taking it apart. I have a cordless one that makes short work of the plastic screws. With wet fingers and average fingers, it gets tough and close to impossible to screw or unscrew them when doing maintenance. This is my only gripe and I wish they would have used another material for the screws. When I first received the skimmer, one of the screws snapped while shipping and I had to wait for a new one to arrive from California. If you are not careful, you can easily strip the screws.

As for the collection cup, it is easy to remove and needs very little space to remove. You will need brushes to get between the walls to clean it thoroughly. I ordered a set of Eheim cleaning brushes and I need them all to get the cup clean. This was also something that could have been designed better as it is very difficult to clean between the tight space in the cup. And Aquamaxx should have supplied some drain tubing like most other skimmer manufacturers do.

Anyways, I am pleased with my purchase....and here are a few pics of the skimmer after a week of skimming. The skimmate was thick and stinky.

Love it! Great little review! As far as the silencer pulling in water, if you go to home Depot, bring the silencer cap with you and go to the plumbing hardware section. You'll find small packs of o rings cheap. You can just drop one in the recessed section of the silencer flange and screw down the cap. No water in my silencer at all. I run my co 1 at 9 3/4.

Your skim looks tasty

happy reefing

Would a cone 1 be enough for 90 gallon with sps' s

I had emailed Aquamaxx tech support and Larry said that the CO-1 could handle a 120g DT with a 40g sump, fully stocked. So, with a 90g, I don't think you would have any problem running a CO-1.
