aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

Look at steveg's pic in post 787.
I'm referring to the air/water line. skimmer will have 3 zones. Lower turbulent zone separated by a fairly fine line of more uniform bubbles rising above that. The line in red on his post is the air water line. That's what I'm referring to. That line should be around 1/2 to 1 inch from the white collar the cup screws onto. Hope that helps

Thanks for clearing that up. I have had my line at the collar and not below it as you have suggested. I have fixed it so we will see what happens.

Okay. Question. When the skimmer foam skimmate falls from feeding or changing socks. How high is the water level in skimmer. Below where cup attaches. Higher.?

Do you have the yellow air line tied off to something?
sorry I missed this post.
Mine isn't tied off. In the position I have mine at, I can rest it against the sump wall and it stands up fine. If you have a lot of sump turbulence then tying it off would be best. Zip ties would be my choice if I needed to.

How long does it typically take to produce skimmate? I have mine sitting in 8" of water, the bubbles are set to go up to the bottom of the collection cup, and since monday (installed and new on Monday), no skimmate produced. I know my water isn't that clean...

possibly. I know you're running yours at 9-9.5". I would rather not though, simply because my sump gets full when my pump turns off. :)

does it sound like break in is not optimal? I didn't run a vinegar bath. And I run a filter sock before the skimmer, if that helps.

Break in time can vary without cleaning but be patient.

Do you have any old skimmate handy from the last skimmer. Even the residue from an old dirty skimmer cup can be rejuevinated in solution to help out a stubborn new skimmer.

It's still new so breakin mileage may vary

I just sold my ASM skimmer, so no old skimmate. I was hoping to see stuff by yesterday. Granted it was installed and running at roughly 11pm to 12AM on Monday, but I want that skimmate you're getting! LOL.

Is your break at the junction of the skimmer neck and bottom of the collection cup?

when mine is idle after feeding, the break is at the base of the cup. the air /water line is lower (below the flange the silencer sits on).

Do you have a fellow reefer you can get a touch of skimmate from?

I'm not suggesting dumping pollutants into your system. I'm only suggesting 3 to four drops down the neck of the running skimmer. The skimmer will start to stabilize and the drops of skim will be held in the foam head.

Maybe I'm confused. As in the bubble level is at the base of the collection cup, but the water level in the sump is below that flange, correct?

Same here. Been running mine for a week. And not skimming much. I have heavy load and feed heavy. This thing should be pulling out by now. All I got in a week is barely 1/4" of skimate

You're running yours at 8.5 right?

if it's adjusted right and still not producing you'll need to run it deeper.

Hang in there!

I totally understand with limits on sump height etc..

I would hate to think anyone would have to redesign or purchase a sump just for a skimmer but many have. Arrgg!

On average the CO 1 seems to perform best for most at or above 9".

worst case scenario, if it isn't skimming the way you had hoped after break in, there are lots of people who will buy it off you in the classy's.

oh!

Love that avatar BTW

very cool!!!!!

Thanks. As you can see, there's a reference to hippo tangs, and the eyes are my profession. Fitting, eh?

Anyway, the bubble consistency started to change today, and the neck of the cup is seeing some colored gunk now!!!! About two days break in, not bad!!!!
