aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

I had to adjust the levels. It was bugging me!!! Hahahha. It works well though. Love it. The asm would pull nicely but this is better

I ordered a JNS CO-1 this morning from Big Al's for my new 60 cube. It is easy to stew forever about what skimmer to get. I had a really old Euroreef 5-2 that I last used 10 years ago on a 72 bowfront. Plug it in and it was obnoxiously loud. So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the CO-1, it looks like the best option for my size tank.

Anyone have their pump die? Mines decided to die just yesterday. I bought this brand new in September last year.

Just sent a message to marine depot through their website. I hope they can help me resolve this quickly!

Just put my new co-1 into the sump. Micro bubbles like crazy, so hopefully that goes away with break in.

Other than that, it's the perfect fit and very quiet. Have people had good results running in 10" of water or should I raise it a bit?

leave it at 10 for a few days and see if it performs (no tweeks).

If you feel it's wetter than you would like then raise the skimmer to 9.5.

my skimmate was weaker (wetter) than I would like at 10 no matter how I adjusted the standpipe.

just an FYI

What size tanks are people using this on? I've had my JNS CO-1 running on a 60g with 15g sump for about a month and a half, and I'm lucky if I get 1" of really wet slightly colored stuff in the cup after about 5 days. This is a 7 year old tank, medium stocked on corals with 2 clowns, a pygmy angel, watchman goby and a midas blenny. Sitting in about 8.5" of water. I have to run the water level super high to get anything at all. I'm not overly concerned because my tank is totally healthy, but it would be nice to see it do something. I'm wondering if my bioload is just too small for the neck size.

Run it deeper. (-;

I have an almost identical setup and I'm running mine in 9.5" now.

I know this is a co-1 thread, but I recently purchased the co-2 and love it. The build quality is great. What I like most about it is you can take it completely apart for cleaning. This allows you to keep it super clean if you like your things neat and organized like me.

To follow up on the above post, the co-2 does require a lower water level then recommended. When I purchased it, I made my baffles 8 inches based on their 8-10" recommendation. I have high flow through my sump so my actual water level is around 9 inches. I had to raise my skimmer a couple inches in order to get it to skim how I liked.

This is how I have my CO-1 set up. The air/water line as I understand it is about 1/2'' below the white collar the collection cup screws into. This is after 1 day of skimming after cleaning the skimmer cup with a toothbrush. The skimmer is at 9.5'' or so with just a little bit of water over the holder for the silencer. The skimmer has been running for 3 months now. No matter what I do I can't seem to get a decent skim - the collection cup gets dirty but no skim goes in after a couple burps. I have left it for days with no change and it hasn't changed. Thoughts?

Thanks man. I will leave it alone for a couple of days and take a new video for an update.

How does your system look?

It's fairly clean, but there is some algae growing and I know there are nutrients in it.
