aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

i believe he mentioned he is limited for space (-;

"The co-02 will not fit my sump area"

he settled on the CO1 so it's a good choice-happy reefing!

Been running mine for 2 weeks now and love it. It realy is a set and forget it just produces cups of super nasty stuff. My wife gets grossed out by it and can't believe the nasty stuff that come out of the water. Glad i ran across this thread because it really helped me make my decision and i couldn't be happier about it. Last thing i wanted was buyers remorse or keep thinking i wish i would have bought a better one.

Thanks again

Lol. No worries.
I do that all the time when I'm posting on a big thread. Just too much stuff to read and I get lost sometimes. Happy reefing

Just ordered mine. Excited to see how far skimmer technology has come in the last 15 years since I bought my last skimmer :-)

Finally got my CO1. Very nice quality. Only negative I see is the skimmer cup being small.

I installed it and have it set wide open. It's currently sitting in 81/2" water. I installed the O ring in the silencer which worked nicely. Thanks for that advise. Keep you guys posted how break in goes and how skimmer works on my tank

reeftivo,

Wasn't it you who said you pour warm water down your air tube to keep it clean? I just had to take my skimmer out of sump and remove the buildup on the venturi. I could easily tell the skimmer wasn't getting enough air as the water level was rising sporadically.
Could I take DT water or RO/DI, warm it in microwave, and pour it down flexible yellow airline tubing or rigid clear tube inside silencer? How do you go about it?
Thanks for your help.

You can just pull the yellow hose off and rinse in the sink. That is what I do when I clean the skimmer. I dismantle the entire skimmer once a month for cleaning.

This is with every skimmer of this type. They eventually get scale and calcium in the venturi..
I soak it in vinegar.

Yep! was me!

DI is fine from the nuclear device;)

I just disconnect the hose from the base of the silencer and go that route.

I bring a cup of hot water to the sump and use a large pipette to squirt it down the hose. I usually run about 3 to 4 ounces down the tube and it clears things up for a couple weeks. If you run high Ca/alk levels then the hot water may not work as well, since the build up may be too strong for hot water alone. If that's the case then you would need to get into the venturi and ream out the deposits. My Deltec used to get clogged all the time and I had to use the blunt end of a drill bit to clear it out.

another option if the hot water alone doesn't work well is to use a 4 to 1 water to distilled white vinegar soltn and heat that up and run a few ounces through. That wouldn't adversely effect the system.

happy reefing

Thanks, I'll give one or both a try. I used a tiny flat head screwdriver with the end bent slightly to scrape the build up inside the venturi rigid tube.

just be careful not to score it (scratch).

prominent scratches can be a platform for more/faster build up.

I screwed up my deltec like that and it became a huge PIA.

I ended up using a q-tip to fix things. I cut one of the ends of the q-tip off and dipped it in some car wax I had. the wax was a cleaner wax that was slightly abrasive and I put in in my drill and polished the inside of the nipple. It worked wonderfully!!

That's worst case of course.

I'm using the Co 1 for my 90g/30g sump softie tank and it's doing great. It all depends on your bioload and corals. I only have a red sea sailfin, a pair of clowns, a pair of chromis, a melanarus wrasse, and a dragon goby (I'll be adding more soon). I feed twice a day with rods, flakes, mysis, or nori. Right now Aquamaxx/JNS seems like the "it" skimmer.

I have had my skimmer running at this level for about 2 weeks. The red line is the where the turbulent water stops and small bubbles start. I just recently raised it up about a 1/4", so it is about 3/4" below the collar now. This is about 4 days worth of skimmate. I run a filter sock and was wondering if this looks about right for the amount of skimmate??

I run mine about a 1/4" below the collar and probably get a little more than a 1/4 cup every seven days.
