I had the same issue with my Aquamaxxx Cone HOB. I ended up taking my dremel and cutting the lip off the aquarium.

That what I was thinking. Just grind off about 1/8".

I used a hacksaw to cut the lip of my sump. Crude but effective.

I'll have to do some creative cutting to keep the plastic bits from falling into the tank.
