Aquascaping - rocks touching glass or no?

Looking for ideas and/or suggestions - do you guys have your rocks touching the glass or not?

I'd love to hear some input on this.

Thanks!

I do, but its just on the back glass. If you have acrylic it's especially important not to let the rocks touch the walls.

You almost can't see my back glass as I have a sloped rock wall from about 6-8" off the front glass up to almost the water surface in the back. And the rocks touch the glass at both ends as well. But I have my sump return delivered thru 2 spray bars that run down the back glass behind the rocks. The return is split in two by a SCWD and the spray bars are in the shape of a big square 'S' on each side (left and right) of the back glass. So I get good water movement thru the rocks.

The back wall is no big deal, although personally I try to avoid it as much as possible just to help prevent dead spots in the flow.

But when I see rocks touching the side glass, it's just gross.

rocks touching glass = cannot clean there and also reduced flow possibly in that area so detritius/crap can collect there

I always make sure I can at least get the magnetic scrapper past it.

Thanks. Got my first acrylic tank and have some rocks against the back just a little. Figured I wouldn't notice a scratch on the back since it isn't clear. But probably better not to.

I have always had rocks touching the back since 93, I don't care about the cleanliness of the back wall. I just make sure some flow can get through and the fish can get around. I always leave the side walls open for cleaning though.

this, this and this

- enuff space for a scraper: check
- enuff space for free flow: check
-rock can't scratch glass: check
- rock is piled in such a manner to stand on its own; and be stable: check

I'd follow this checklist as well.

I have some rock touching the back, but I make sure that there is flow going back there for movement. I make sure nothing touches the sides for cleaning purposes. Really the only rocks that touch the back glass are the top ones that lean against it and a foundation I created in the middle.

Rock touches the back glass just at the top for me as well. Power head is pointed into the opening behind the rock and the glass. Shouldn't have a dead zone issue. I dont think.
