I have noticed the last few days that my ASM skimmer has been making a waterfall noise from the sponge. I took a peak at it today and the collection cup is overflowing! The bubbles are just running over like crazy and the water is flowing too much. I turned it off, emptyed it and put it back on and it filed like 1/4 of the way up in 5 minutes. Anyone know what my problelm is? The pump looks like it is in there just fine. Thanks!

My guess would be that it is either:
1. The pump is clogged and needs cleaning
2. The riser pipe is set to high. (you should look into the gate valve mod)
3. It is just breaking in.

Clean the pump and the air inlet on the venturi and lower the riser pipe if is is not already lowered.

BILL AND ELAINE, I don't know if it my imagination but since the gate mod, it appears that the bubbles in the collection cup are actualy spinning instead of going straight up. They are spinning so fast I can't even see bubble size. I know the bubble reaction chamber spins due to recirculation but this added spinning is very interesting. Can this really be because of a different gate mod?

sabodish, your tank looks great however I am going to go with Ocean Image Aquarium out of Pottstown, PA... 72 X 30 X 24

Update on Skimmer: I think it broke in :)) This thing is pulling out some incredible gunk/skunk/funk. I will post pictures later this evening. Although it's skimming a little wet I am loving it.

More to come......

I hooked up Ozone to my G3 with an Ozone safe T and I SMELL Ozone in the room. Anyone know how I can fix this.

My ASM Mini broke in over the weekend after 5 days of running. Here are some pics of the first three days of skimate.

i believe you can use some activated carbon at the fkimmer outflow to absorb the excess ozone, that's what i do

Ease up on the ozone so it is injected in smaller amounts over a longer period of time. Usually having a controller will help in keeping large doses from creating that smell. Since ASM skimmers use an open style collection cup vent its hard to filter with carbon. Placing carbon near the output is a good idea but usually won't do much for the smell.

That genx unit still producing that much o3?

What about putting a adjuster on the ozone output to slow down the rate of o3 injection. Since that thing seems to have a built in airpump.

Oh I forgot are you using a luft now?

Now I am confused

I am using the Luft but have it set at 3. I am gonna try 2 and see if that helps.

It is my understanding if you smell it then the source is coming from the skimmer where it releases air (neck)......Is that right? If so........how ya fix that? And you think you are confused.:wildone:

Hey wait, I'm confused (or kenfuzed)!
Yes, normally the ozone smell is coming from the air escaping the vents and not that much from the water. One way I defeated this was to tee off the air intake tubing and attach one end to the top of the cup cover (you'll need to drill a small hole). This will draw in air from the cup and recycle it. Just make sure you tap this tube into the outer edge of the lid and not the center. It also wouldn't hurt to put a ozone proof check valve on this tube. That way if the pump quits and stops sucking in air/ozone you won't be injecting ozone into the collection cup.

I still think your genx unit pushes out air at its own speed also . If it were mine I would take it apart to find out but its not .

Anyways as ken mentioned you can recycle air or you can even go to the extream and drill a few holes in the lid put carbon ontop in a bag and use syran wrap to seal the lid where it meets the cup . This will stop o3 from leaking out the cup withough being treated.

HI- thinking about getting into your ASM "Club" . Have a 90 mixed tank with a 29 refugium/sump that has a pretty large bio-load and my CPR sr4 skimmer with a modified oceanrunner 2700 pump is overworked. Have gotten several "sellers" advice of which model I should get. But, thought I would ask some "users" vs sellers. Asmskimmer.com failed to answer quesions regarding modications and how they effect the skimmer function/effectiveness. Does the gate valve make a G2 work as wellas a G3? same question regarding the recirculation modification. Thanks - you can just email or Pm me rather than making this allready very lengthy thread even larger. If these questions have been answered previously- please direct me to the date of the posting. THanks

Gate valve just provides more precise adjustments than the riser tube... it won't increase skimming efficency.

The recirc mod will increase performance.
