I just found out that it is the the old g-4 with the sed 5000....is this a good deal and if I do the recirc will that be enough pump? I was hoping it was going to be the g-4+ with the sedra 9000....

the g-4 is here and man this thing is huge! when I read the dimensions I never would have pictured it being this giant!! now I just need to get a 9000 and do a few mods....

next a 1litre bottle

I want some ideas from the other side, which is better for a 180g a EV240 or a G4X?
not sure about the ev240 but I have the G4 and it works awesome on my 180gal.

I love my G4X on my 180, works like a champ!

I just installed my G-4+ (after running for 48 hours to clean). My question is like a lot of others. Where should either the water level or the bubble forming area be set. I look at some of the photos and it appears that bubbles are forming below the first joint in the main container. Bubbles are not a problem for me but if I set it at the base of the cup it immediately bubbles very wet into the cup

I created a "Super G3" today. The G3 comes stock with a Sedra 5000 pump. I left that pump as is and added a second Sedra 5000 in recirc mode. The bubble density is nuts, I am going to let it run for a good 24 hours and then take some pictures.

what kind of hole saw do I use to cut the hole in the skimmer? any suggestions on how to keep the skimmer from moving?

run at first at the bottom of the neck until you get a brown layer inside the neck (couple days or so) then bring it up to 1 inch below the top or overflows out.

the site I just got mine from is still willing to offer the best price around if you look at my above post!! If yoiu are interested just pm me for a link or email!!!!

Both have their pros and cons. I've been running my G2 (fully modified w/Sedra 5000 recirc) on my 150 for a year and it has been a workhorse. However I've moving up to a EV240 with some customization to handle the extra frag tank I've added and selling my moded G2. Guess I have to resign from the club now :p

My new G-3 (unmodded) is arriving today. What's the optimal height/depth for it to sit in the sump? What's the easiest way to achieve that height? An eggcrate stand? (My sump is about 18" deep or so)

Here's a bad picture of the sump:

Remora.JPG

Thanks

Geesh.. all the people sayin 8" that was started at the beginning of the first thread if remember.
My sump is 17" deep baffles, have G3 on tupperware bowls that raise it approx 4" putting it at 13" deep, it is 3 times better than it was when ran anywhere between 7" and 11" . fought with the dang thing for 7 months till i redid sump where it could be deeper.

granted if recirc it, you pretty much defeat the height thing.
But from my experience with mine, when i recirced it did better than the 7-11" thing but when redid sump, put it back to standard with gvm and put pump deltec style and put to 13" deep it kicked the recirc mod out the water.
mine sucked at 8" water depth.
Granted the whole time it was always 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 2 or less nitrate. and since bumped the water depth has been .2 or below nitrate on seachem and whatever testkit lfs used
therefore nitrates are 1/10th what they were prior.

and fwiw the remora pro on the qt would kick up foam anytime water came out the 150g skimmed by g3 below the 13"
but since put to 13" the remora pro isn't affected with the water change coming from the 150. In essence, remora pro outskim g3 in less than 11" but at 13" no longer does.
hopefully, this will put to rest that g3's need to be in 8" water.
don't cut the riser, just put the pvc elbow right on it,

New G3 w/mod

New G3 w/mod

Hey guys,
I just put in my new G3 yesterday. I did the B & E style valve mod today. I couldn't find a gate valve at HD or Lowes so I went with a ball valve. This is where I'm at, what more should I do? Will it take a couple of days to "break in" the skimmer?
