Das75, do your fittings come loose when you remove the collection cup?? Maybe it's just me, but everything on my recirc mod seems loose.

The only uniseal loose on my G4X is the one that came with it. All of the others are fine. I made the pipes a little longer than they needed to be so they dont "pop out". Also put a little silicone around the insert of your uniseal, and I promise it wont leak. I use uniseals on my 55G drum in the garage and it doesn't leak there either. The silicone will help during fitment as well.

thrlride, On my R/C G4x (250g total) -- as a feed pump-with 1/2" feed tapped in 1/3 way down the body- I used a mag 2, then a mag 3, then a sen 600gph. IMHO, 600gph seemed to be a much better! the skimmate really picked up. (was more like 450-500 into skimmer, which would be @ 2x total volume of my tank)
Because I like playing aroung with pumps and skimmers---I have a genx 6000 n/w (1300gph) feeding the skimmer now! it is really kicking ARS! wish i knew how to post pics.. I am thinking about ordering a 4100 gen-x, I believe the skimmer would do much better, with less water flowing thru it.. I have a OR3700 I may try it instead..
BTW, what is TSV? (forgive my ignorance, the more I learn about this hobby the more I learn-- I don't knowcrap)

Up on the Soapbox I go!!!
I am on the ASM forum because I like the skimmer, its a little on the low end side but gets the job done very well! ( not sure about the mini)
I do have to say that IMHO the customer service sucks! $11 shipped for a $3-4 uniseal ??? (I believe it was $8-10 for me a month ago) When I asked about a skimmer with out a pump-- they said they would knock $50 off the price, but prior to that when I asked about buying one it was @120!!!! :(
I believe everyone has the right to make a living, but come on now!
Stacy, PM sent..

TSV is total system volume. :)

I'm confused, you upped flow to 600 gph then said skimmer would work better with less water flowing through it, were you referring to the 4100 gen-x as providing too much?

I thought the benefit of the recirc mod was slower flow, more contact time etc where the main needlewheel pump had to be so large due to creating the bubbles, not flow. Is that not a true statement?

does anyone know of any other place other than asmskimmer.com to get the 1" uniseals? I really dont want to pay $11 for shipping for a little rubber seal. Its just stupid.

aquaticeco.com
savko.com

I got mine at savko and ordered the gate valve at the same time.

Sorry man, I knewI put too much info into a small package. I sometimes do not make it clear...(sometimes I confuse myself  when I read what I typed) It seems like each week I am trying something new on skimmers!!
I am now running my G4x with the sedra 9000 as a r/c pump, the 1/2 feed hole is plugged, and the "feeder" pump is a gen-x 6000.

thrlride, you are correct , it does help to have a slower feed rate on the r/c, but it also seems you can go too slow.. using the normal r/c mod, my skimmer worked best @ 2x tsv.

What I believe I will end up doing on my G4X is: 2- 900gph pumps set up r/c. And feed the skimmer with 600-800gph.
Much like a deltec 702.. (I hope) :)

Thanks Charlie Davidson, I understand now. :)

I'll try with the MJ1200 first then try a mag5 to see how that does.

Hey, saw the post about the mj 1200 earlier.. sorry I didn't answer :) I though you were just playing around! Please let me know, how you feel about the mj1200- I am thinking its way too small! (mag 3 was for me) Do you have a mag 5 to try? Are you tapping into body with 1/2 fitting? remember that they will restrict the flow (on larger pumps) ALOT!! the ones I buy at my LHS are 3/8" (on the inside) or less!

thought for beefing up the mini -

Would it be an improvement to use the pump from a coralife super skimmer on the ASM Mini-G? Is the coralife pump better (more powerful, less noisey)?

Where can you get a CSS Pump without the skimmer?

IMHO, yes.. I see some makers say 1x-1.5x for thier r/c's. Deltecs seem to run 1.5-2x. My g4x moded r/c with sedra9000, just seemed to work alot better with @ 2x tsv. What is 1600 liters in gals? (pump was 1600 l)

aquaticeco.com
savko.com

I got mine at savko and ordered the gate valve at the same time.

I went to savko.com and they don't carry 1.25" pvc gate valve which is what is specified for the mod on asmskimmer.com for the asm g3. Did they stop carrying it? I was looking here.

Savko seems to be cheaper than aquaticeco which does carry the 1.25" valve.
