Hey guys - I havn't the time to run through this whole thread looking for my answers :) My G3 with gate valve, recirc and feed mod has been working great - now I planning a vacation for 11 days and tneed to get the cup drilled to drain the skimmate. What size and location would you recommend.

Thanks - jer

Do you ever need to take the skimmer out? I;m trying to decide between the g2 and g3. It says the g3 is 25" and I only have 28" of clearance under my tank. Was trying to make my skimmer section on my new sump as small as possible but I won't be able to make it that small if I need to take the skimmer out. Don't want to take my baffles off and replace them monthly if I need to keep taking this out.

Anyone with a similiar setup? How big is your skimmer section?

purchased a used g-4 with a sedra 9000 feed and a sedra5000 recirc pump a few weeks ago.this thing will not stop pulling the crap ouuta my water.had a g-3 before.anyways finally got around to doing a power outtage check and my sump will overflow if power goes out!whats the lowest water level possible for this skimmer before i drill a hole in my sump??thanks jimmer

I'm looking into getting a G3 w/ recir mod and was wondering if a 29g tank be able to accommdate this skimmer? Will probably have the gate valve mod at a later date. Thanks.

Shamelss bump since I want to order this ASAP since I am setting up over the 4th of July holiday.

My ASM G3 went nuts the other day and got the wall and floor wet. Nothing touched the tank and nothing was sprayed in the air, it just went all Courtney Love on me.

So, do you think it would help to drill a hole in the side of the cup near the top to have it drain back to the sump in case it decides to go nuts again?

Also, does a recirculation ASM go nuts like the standard ones?

Try this, possibly. Check out LifeReef's design for their self cleaning venturi. It prevents cup overflow by sucking the skimmate back out from the cup when it gets too high, and threatens to overflow. Even having a waste cup drain won't prevent an overflow -- if it really goes nuts, it'll just fill the waste container till it overflows too (unless you have a fancy one that has a float switch in it that turns off your protein skimmer).

Advice needed please.

My sump is a 29g tank for my 72g bowfront. It's 12" wide and I'm kinda cramped for space underneath. I'm trying to decide between the G2 and G3. The G3 footprint is 9.5x12. Is it really 12" as I'd like to maximize my return area and make my skimmer area 10x12.

Is the gate valve worth it? given my skimmer area, I could go G2 with it or G3 without it.

What did you guys do to keep your skimmer and your hole saws steady when drilling? I'm afraid it's going to spin and I'll break something unless I hold it down somehow. I'd hate to ask favors of my friends to come over and help me if I can avoid that.

I just layed mine on the ground and went at it :spin2: do not hold the drill at high speed and you should not have any problems.(take your time)

Hard to resist innuendo on this one...

Hold the skimmer firmly and then slowly push the hole saw in to the body of the skimmer.

What would you guys that own ASM's would be a good choice to run on a 75 gal with a slightly heavy bioload? I was thinking of getting a G2, but if I can fit a G3, I would prefer to get that as it has the sedra 5000. Suggestions?

Im' told he g3 is twice the skimmer the g2 is.

This is true. Going from the G2 to a G3 you go from a Sedra 3500 to a Sedra 5000 and a larger skimmer body.

Sorry if this question has been asked

Sorry if this question has been asked

Has anyone, who has a G3 Recirc skimmer, setup their skimmer out side of the sump. I've been told that they leak.

If you have - do you have a picture to share and how you did it?

TIA.
