Setting up a 120 gallon reef............is a G4 plus or G4x just plain overkill? Or a good idea if you can do it??

You don't need a asm g3 would be plenty, but get the g4x is you have room and can afford it.. It would give you options on upgrading in the future..

Your opinions please...I'm setting up a 390g with about another 130g in the sump. I have 39 inches of inside stand height. Skimmer section of sump will run 12-17 inches of water depth depending on where I put the baffles. I'll wait on that until I find a skimmer. I'm considering a G5. What do I need to know?

I ran my 120g on a g-3 and it was jam packed with sps and fish so either will be fine .

Here is what my 120 looked like before I tore it down . The back hadn't been clean in 2 months due to the fact I knew it was coming down.

i just bought a 180 gallon and am deciding on a skimmer. The internal space in my stand is only 26", what skimmer would you recomend? Will I have room for a g3 or g4? (how much space do I need...to allow to remove the cup and allow 1/4ish for the sump. Can i put the skimmer on the sump floor?

Has anyone noticed that ASMskimmer.com only has the G-3 and 4 on the site. I heard that ASM has uped the wholesale price and for a few dollars more many customers are going to euroreef or Octopus. It looks like ASMskimmer is going out of business given these price increases.

ASMskimmer.com is not longer getting new shipments of skimmers. Once they sell existing inventory, they are done unless something changes.

It's true. ASM was forced to up the price. Also other dealers were getting frustrated with ASM.com's low prices. I have heard ASMskimmers.com (who is no affiliated with ASM other than sales) has been cut off. They will no lionger be selling ASM skimmers.

In all fairness, from what I understand, the bubbles size/consistancy just ins't as good with the RO's due to the NW vs. PW.

I have not seen one in action, so I am really curious as to what is the truth.

clkwrk, does your RO "surge" bubbles in to the chamber, or is there a smooth flow like the ASM? Also, it appears that the bubble size is much finer on the ASM. Whats your opinoin on that?

Thanks,

Jim

Bubble size with the RO skimmer is inconsistant . Hard to see if it surges as the chamber is filled with bubbles.

But from my observation the ASM produces finer bubbles and is very consistant. Which is why I can get a good dry foam withit unlike the RO.

and yet I can even get more dry foam from an ehiem 1260 NW over the sedra NW.

IMO bubbles should be consistant no matter what skimmer you own . BTW this is the bubbles on an h&s

I have a question. I got a G-4 plus, I had carbon chilling in a large filter sock, while I was gone, the filter sock built up with crap and overflowed, carrying the carbon out too, so there is little pieces of carbon in my sump and I can't get them all. My skimmer didn't like that and overflowed into the waste container and I lost over 10 gallons of water. So could someone explain why skimmers don't like it when carbon is floating around and how bad is this?
Thanks
Anthony
