I'm thinking of setting up a 30"x 30" cube ,either 24" tall or maybe only 20" tall. I was gonna get the 24" 8 bulb hybrid , my question is for people using this light , does only having one led cluster get overpowered by the 8 t5 bulbs? Or is it strong enough to add some shimmer and pop that LEDs provide.

I have the 8tube 24watt unit. The Royal Blue and Blue LED's DONT get washed out by the T5's. in fact the POP is VERY good.

With the White LED's I dont use them turned up high as with the Blue LED's, but there is still shimmer. I can get the shimmer more pronounced if I aim my return towards the surface breaking the waterline etc.

It also depends on how many white tubes you use in the 8 tube combo. More white tubes mean less of a shimmer from the white LED's. Think of using 8 T5 tubes supplementing even a 250w halide, you will lose A LOT of the shimmer because you the T5's BATHE the whole tank with light and there are no shadow/dark areas, so the shimmer from the halide will be much less pronounced.

In fact I bought this light to go over my next tank which is going to be a 30x30x24.

I know a few build threads on the other forum which use this light over tanks of the same dimension and they are happy with the light.

I am starting to get great colour on my SPS corals...In fact as good my LFS who is using 2xRadium 20K's over his tank. So I am very impressed with this light unit.

I will be posting a video of my tank in a few weeks to evidence how good this light is.

Everything in my system has been thriving especially sps.
The only thing is the light spillage. It basically lights up the whole room.
30X30X24 rimless cube.
This light is perfect. The user interface can be a little tricky. Once you get the hang of it, it's really easy to use

I find at that height I don't get the coverage I like from the LEDs. I was playing around with my light today and really think 12" is the sweet spot. Running LED's at 100% combination of blue+, Aquablue and Blue+, and Coral+ LED presets through the day.

Not really a worthy pic, but here is mine over the tank. I moved the stand in just to ensure all the doors would open nicely and that the light would hang well over the tank.

Finally joined the club.

This is a big improvement over the Razor thats for certain. But ... the Razor sure was easy to program ... i'm not very comfortable with the desktop software. I just cant get my settings to stick. Is there a guide somewhere? Can't find anything at ATI website.
