ATI Powermodule Hybrid Club

Does anyone know what the acceptable range of temp our LED's should be in? And what the average acceptable temp is?

I'm curious if the acceptable & average temps is constant across the various fixture sizes or if they run hotter in the larger units, for example

The fans kick on when they get too warm. I know mine never get above 45°C even at midday. The max my LEDs go right now is 40% however so I'm not driving them hard. I'm going to bump them up to 50% tomorrow as part of my acclimation.

I have an 8 tube 24watt Powermodule. I suspect on the longer units due to the extra fans and extra heatsinking the overall temp would be around the same.

My LED temp is somewhere around 50-54'C. But I am running my T5's full and most of my LED at full. Eg my Royal Blues, run 100%, my Blues run 75% and my white around 40%.

In any event the system has a fail safe built in: Ie a SAFE MODE. If the temps gets too high the unit will go into SAFE MODE and run both the T5's and the LED's at a much lower current until the temp drops to a safe level.

This should alert the user to do some checking...ie if they have the unit inside a canopy, is there adequate ventilation etc.

I ran my previous ATI Sunpower with LED's MUCH hotter. Somewhere like 65'C, which means the junction temp was probably something like 85'C. The LED's are still fine and have run that way for 2-3 years.

With computer control over the fans and the fail safe built in, I wouldnt worry at all. Unless you see the Controller in SAFE MODE.

Thanks guys. I haven't played around with the LED settings yet, so they are running as they came from the factory at the moment. With all 8x80 T5's and all LED's on, I'm also in the low 50's temp wise.

Tbone28 post some pics up of your unit and tank! :D

Here you go. Been busy, so still haven't touched the LED settings. They are set at how they come from factory, and still at 100%. Bulbs were moved over from my other Powermodule and are:

AquaBlue Special

Actinic

Purple+

Tank is your standard spec 180g. Fixture is hanging 9" over the water line at the moment. My other Powermodule was 6" over. All pics via iPhone. sorry :sad1:

LOVE THIS FIXTURE!!!! :bounce1:

Tbone28: thats a beautiful tank! Congrats on the ATI LED Powermodule purchase.

If you need any help with setting it up you can shoot me a PM. Ryans short written tutorial a few pages back pretty much helped me figure out the software.

Those coral colonies are HUGE!!! Thats the biggest war coral colony I've seen!

Looking good tbone.

My fixture arrives on the 2nd. Going to be a tough Thanksgiving holiday without my fixture.

I ordered a 48" fixture (8x54w T5s and 3 LED clusters). I'm replacing a 2x250w DE MH with 6 T5s.

Very nice Rodney! Those are great colours for a very young system.

This one looks like it will have very nice colours: cant wait to see it in colony size. Any idea what it is? Does it have hobby name?

Well, I dont know about anyone else, but it seems to me like the T5's are producing the best of colours out of all your lighting. :)

No worries, ill talk to my mate and get his spectrometer over for some play time :)

Ill eyeball that graph and try match peaks as close as possible, he has just had another baby so might be a week or two when I can get him over

Also if anyone wants my current program send me a PM with your email and ill send it back. Its nice blue crisp look

Rodney sorry I can't send pm's yet because I don't have the required 10 posts needed. If you don't mind can you email me your current project @ sleeved310@aol.com. Your tanks always look amazing so I definitely want to give yours a try. Thanks.

Pete

What's the shimmer like on these units?............that's the one thing I miss since going from halides to T5s.

A short vid would be nice if anyone can post one.

Ed, the shimmer completely depends on how you setup the light profile.

If you seek to obtain a generous amount of the white spectrum from the white LED's rather than white T5 tubes, then you will get metal halide like shimmer.

However, if you get most of your white light from T5's and set the White LED's low, then the effect is much lower as the white light from the T5's will obviously drown out the white spotlighting from the LEDs. It is of course the white spotlighting which causes the shimmer.

Aside from the White LED's the other colours, Royal Blue, Blue and Red do produce some shimmer effect, but its the White LED's which produce the most noticeable effect.

I dont get no crazy dancing colours or bands, which I am pleased about.

I took a quick video with my iPhone. Just cleaned my tank, so some corals are sliming up. Please excuse :)

Tbone28: I love your light profile. That shimmer looks VERY GOOD! I will PM you, can you email me your light profile and tube combo please? Many thanks!

Here you go :)

The LED's are set at what they were from the factory, which on my module is:

r rb b w: 130 255 172 255 all @100%

I do plan on playing around with the colors. I've just been too busy to do so yet. My bulbs are as below.

So I have a 60x18x24" tall acrylic and wondering about the 8 bulb powermodule. I do have an external coast to coast overflow that I could use as a frag tank since the unit is 20"? My tank is 90% sps.

My other potential issue is I have a canopy that is 15" tall. However, the canopy is open completely. I was thinking of hanging a 60" 8 bulb fixture. Do you think it will be ok?

I wanted to give a few pics to show what I have to deal with. As you can see from the last pic you can see the external overflow which is 5" so when adding the 18" I would have more than enough for the 20" wide fixture, right?

Also you can't see very well but the canopy is completely open on top But it is also very tall, my goal was to have the fixture just set to the top of the canopy so there would be no light spillage but it would be nearly 14-16" off the water which I know is too high. The 60" would fit all the way into the canopy but would not leave much room on either side? Some help?
