This would be a question better answered by the more experienced T5 users. I have mine 12" above water and while having to bulb burn in limited my T5 usage to 4 hours per day and have seen no ill effects from the corals. I previously used Kessils.

8-12inches above waterline is fine.

When adding new corals you should start them off on the sand anyway to prevent light shock. After a week you can place them higher up. You can of course dim the fixture down by around 25%...but end of the day, it all depends on the sort of light levels the corals came from.

I sent you a light profile. NOTE: the hours of light is very long. You can see what I created for you. But I highly recommend you amend the light profile and reduce the T5 intensity to around 60%.

For others that may see this thread, I was able to upgraded the firmware using Parallels with no problem.

I'm glad you did, maybe I own an older parallel version but I've tried many times with no success.

I have a slow LED ramp up from 7 am to 11 am (sunrise effect) when my T5s come on. My LEDs stay on till 11 pm. T5s off at 7 pm. I have the LEDs ramp up to 10% from 7 am to 10 am then to 40% at 11 am. Is that slow enough? The only problem is I can't see the tank well before I leave for work at 8 am when the LEDs are probably 3%. Can I increase the intensity some more? Also what colors should I be using for the ramp up? I currently use the royal blues only.

I have 4 T5s on 9 hours with a 1 hour ramp up and down. I have the other 4 growth (if you can call it that) T5s on 4 hours with a 30 min ramp up and down. So far corals seem to love it.

Sorry man, I think you PM'd me on the UK site a while ago and your post here reminded me just now. :facepalm:

I run my T5's for about 7 hours. Peak LED for around 5 hours and Royal Blues for around 9 hours.

HOWEVER, that is all dependant on nutrient levels and how deep your tank is etc and how much PAR the corals are getting and can deal with.

If you notice corals becoming pale, reduce the light hours. Just last week I reduced the T5's down to 6 hours because nutrients have become quite low in my tank. I have already seen some deepening in the colours.

To the best of my knowledge, 6500k.

I have a 8 bulb 24", I run mine 7 hours, and 4 hours for the 2 T5 channels, and 10 hours of LED at 20%. I am still having trouble getting good color and growth. A lot of thinning or pasteling, some bleaching. Light is 10 inches above 50 gal cube. Could I be putting too much light on these guys still?

Corals can also bleach from too little light. It may be a nutrient (too low, unlikely) or contaminant issue too.
