I'm certainly not upset with almost 700 eggs but they were almost 1000 before I moved them to the new tank.

Can't believe this thread is up to 500 posts.

FB- I'm guessing our estimated hatch dates are the same. No hatch for me last night and NO SLEEP! :eek2: I just turned out the last of the lights (delayed them for an hour, got home late) I just heavily fed everything in the tank in hopes that everyone will be too full to go out for a "late night snack"! Was this good preventative measures or did I just waste food and polute my tank for nothing?

I'm finally assembling the larvae catcher (better late than never) and hopefully will have it in and running before they hatch. I don't think I can do another night of NO sleep! :eek2:

Sweet thread- thanks for all the info people. My tomato's just spawned for the first time about 6 days ago now. The eyes on my eggs are clearly evident- the only prob: i have no rotifers or other viable live food for the fry or any tank set up for them. So- hopefully I will be more prepared next time!

Lost half the nest last night with not enough flow and only 1 hatched from the other half. I guess he is eating well.

The batch that I feed only BBS too appear to misbared like crazy. So even in a pinch they may not work the best. Rotifers are key and the more the better. For my next batch I am going to try and have 5 strong cultures going. I have one strong and 2 weak currently.

Bummer FB. Just when we start to think we know what we are doing...

"The batch that I feed only BBS too appear to misbared like crazy."

That's interesting. Misbars are becoming more popular these days...

The bad news just keeps coming.

Some of the fish in the tank that was cloudy appear to be getter "flared" gills. At first it only looked like 1 or 2 now maybe 30 or 40. Is it something that is contagious or what. If anybody has any information on this it would be great. Should I seperate them?

Thanks

FB- I'm so sorry about all these losses and setbacks. I thought for sure with all of your successes that this would've been the best batch yet! I still haven't gottten the "Clownfish" book yet, but it's on the way. I'm a little fuzzy on the terminology though: What is a: "misbar"?

Also, do you have any pictures of what the clown larvae looks like when it first hatches? Mine did hatch last night also but I was only able to catch about 5 or 6 using a pippette to siphen them up. I think these are the clowns because they have orange bellies but I'm not sure... they're too small to tell. All I can see is them swimming jerky bacwards... Is this normal?

One last question: Regarding airflow/circulation. I have a bubble stone with small rolling bubbles. Is this good or bad? Thanks and once again, sorry for your losses.

Here is one with it's belly full of rotifers

If they don't have a full belly like this they are not eating enough.

Bummer FB. As far as I know its not contagious. I haven't heard of it with regular Ocellaris. I was told its quite common in Black ones. (I haven't seen one yet) Man bacteria blooms are really nasty. I just lost a Blonde Naso to one in my QT.

FB, Try some Nitrofuran on that batch. It should knock out any infection that resulted from the cloudy water episode.

I took some of the fish out of the tank to get a better pic.

You can really see the flared gills.

FB

The flaring shows up well in those pictures. The gills are often the first thing to show infection problems, with flaring like that they are likely pretty well inflamed. One of the good thing about the furan group of antibiotics is they are usually quite effective on most bacterial problems and even some common protozoan problems. So the furan2 should have them showing some improvements withing a few days.
