The flaring shows up well in those pictures. The gills are often the first thing to show infection problems, with flaring like that they are likely pretty well inflamed. One of the good thing about the furan group of antibiotics is they are usually quite effective on most bacterial problems and even some common protozoan problems. So the furan2 should have them showing some improvements withing a few days.

If I can find some!!!

I don't know how it would work for the shipping to Canada, but I get my drugs for the lab from National Fish Pharmaceuticals. It's usually a good idea to keep a small selection on hand. My stock at the lab includes Nitrofuran, Kanamycin, formalin and copper. Can pretty much nail most anything that might show up with that selection. The few things those won't treat aren't particularly common and the needed drugs for those can usually be found from a vet or even farm supply store.

I can order it online but it would take a week to get here without paying $30.00 for next day shipping.

I am going to call a bunch of store tomorrow and hope they have some otherwise it might take some time.

So if treated will these fish go back to normal or will they always have flared gills.

I imagine that this infection will cause death. Any idea how much time I might have.

Thanks

You should be able to find some in the LFS. Once the infection clears up they should return to normal within a couple of weeks if not quicker. Left untreated it could indeed cause high mortalities, but without seeing them up close and personal it's hard to figure a time line if left untreated.

Thanks Bill

On another note I picked up 4 nice acrylic growout tanks.

They are about 4 feet long and have a divider in the middle. They are also drilled and have bulkheads already on them. I am going to plumb them all together with a sump for a mini system. I will try and get a picture tongiht.

Bonus the store closest to me has a bunch of it.

So I will be able to treat them tonight. :D

Where did you find these tanks?

They were old store tanks. I got them from the guy I am selling the fish too. When he moved he decided to go with new tanks. He has about 16 more if I need them in the future.

Ahhhh.... I C!!! Sounds like you have yourself a great deal going with him. I'm surprized he doesn't have the medicine you need.

Sweet thread- thanks for all the info people. My tomato's just spawned for the first time about 6 days ago now. The eyes on my eggs are clearly evident- the only prob: i have no rotifers or other viable live food for the fry or any tank set up for them. So- hopefully I will be more prepared next time!

Small "hijack" I am in Santa Cruz and if your interested i could help you out with some rotifers and phyto to get you started. sorry Fb; now back to our regular programming, wow you had a busy weekend from the sounds of it.

I don't know what happened to the fish at the store but after 5 days i would have to think it was something on his end, but it was nice of you to replace them, and you were able to score some grow out tanks from it, so i guess it sounds like a win, win situation.

Interesting that the group that got the bbs early are showing up as misbars, thanks for the updates.

Here is the complete series of egg pictures from day 1 to day 8.

I'm positive it was somthing on his side because the fish in my tank from the same batch are doing great.

I actually just talked to him, I brought 7 more over to him on Sunday and he said they are doing great. He put them in a different tank away from his fish system. I told him they were eating pellets and he didn't believe me. He said he gave them pellets yesterday and they devoured them, he was stunned.

Hopefully I can get the new system setup soon. Now I need to pick out a return pump. Any idea how much flow I should put through each of these tanks. I was thinking about going with a mag 9.5 so I have enough power for expansion and then I can just return the unused pressure back to the sump and still get enough flow through these tanks.

I would like to move my other occelaris pair from my sump and my gsm pair from a 10 to one of these new tanks. The divider is clear between them. If they can see each other will this cause a problem. If so what happens if there are juvenilles beside them.

Thanks

The package comes with 10 pouches, each is enough to treat 10 gallons. They just happen to be in a 10 gallon tank. How many treatments should I do or is one enough.

I don't know what kind of instructions it comes with but figured you might know

Thanks

I'd need to see the package to see how much is in each pouch, though most meds from the LFS are packaged so that one pouch/tablet/capsule is to treat for 10 gallons. If it's nitrofuran, one treatment every other day for a minimum of 3 treatments.

So you have (4) acrylic tanks 4' long with a divider in each correct? So there is going to be 8 compartments plus the sump. Did i read & understand all of that correctly?

Where are the bulkheads at on the tanks one on each end? Are they at the top or on the bottom of the tanks.

I have no idea if the divider being clear will be an issue. Is it removable or fixed in place?

I don't care for the mag pumps due to the noise level and heat that they produce but in a system like this maybe it's not a big issue.

Probably should wait for a picture to get a better idea of what you are wanting to do.

Of course you will have head loss from the sump to the tanks as well.

A mag 9.5 is listed for 950gph consumes 93 watts not sure about the max. head ht. though?
