Have any of you tried frozen rots with live to see if they will start eating the frozen? Probably stupid question, but I had to ask.

You have alot more on the go then I do FB that's for sure. Mine took an extended vacation from spawning. Really once they are in growout they aren't that much work though. Except weekly tank cleaning / water changes.

Frozen rots won't work for larvae MYDRAAL. Its been tried with dismal results. There is no stupid questions... Well there is but that wasn't one of them :)

I tried ... Didn't work for me. It pollutes the water way to fast with the quantity the larvae need !

My rots have not come back as quickly as I had hoped. I do have three containers on the go so we shall see how things go. Eggs should hatch tomorrow night.

I have started another 10 gallon tank to transfer my oldest batch (100+) out of my 5 gallon which will be used for the new larvae.

I know some people have gotten in trouble posting about selling fish. Could someone please clarify what I can and cannot say. I believe I am ok to talk about it but cannot actually sell to anyone on these boards.

If this post violates any rule or policy please delete and accept my apologies.

I had an idea of packing up some fish and giving (for free) 2 to each store to kind of get my foot in the door. Talk to the owners about what I am doing and how much I am selling them for. By actually seeing the fish in their tanks and how well they may or may not sell might help me start unloading some of the fish that I am going to have ready within the next month or two.

I have an in at a wholesaler but I probably won't get top dollar from them, however we will have to see if a couple of volume sales works better than driving around trying to sell 10-20 of them.

I don't know if this is done in this business, but you might consider putting your fish on consignment. I should think that the LFS would welcome that, pay you when they sell, or just give the store credit, that might work for you also.
You just need to have a better "edge" to get them to deal with you than how they are already doing business. If a store stiffs you, you just don't deal with them again [ and someone will!]
Credit or consignment may be a benefit to you.
Don't be shy about having a few accounts giving credit to 5 or 6 stores.
Suggest you take say twenty fish with you when you knock on their door and then leave them there on a handshake or whatever. Don't forget K.I.S.S. for them.

I used to offer retailers a replacement deal. I would bring fish in and if any died before they were sold I would replace them. Made the store owner more comfortable and I could charge a little more.

Also make sure your price list includes different sizes. Growing out clowns is not free so make sure to collect for your hard work.

You can even seperate them by color/banding. You can charge less for misbars or more depending on your market. Many markets demand a lower price for misbars, but in the past and currently with everyone looking for a unique clownfish misbars can be worth more.

I just transferred 101 clowns that were born on 6/27/08 to a 10 gallon tank. At only 48 days old these guys are big. A couple are almost an inch and have started getting good colour on the fins already. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.

You've got it right

If you have enough stores close enough that the driving and gas won't be a killer, you can offer the dual advantage of free delivery along with the great diminished shipping stress from buying your stock. This will let you set a competitive price that still offers a price break to the stores ;) Dropping a couple of "test" fish off isn't a bad idea either, but offer them a bag of dozen to buy first. If they are reluctant to buy that first bag, than offer them those test fish ;)

Good Idea!

Had a 100% hatch last night. Not a very large clutch but still not bad. My rots are not at 100% but I think they should hold.

Rots not doing great. Its day 2 and I started BBS, starting with 10 or so and adding more after they were eatan. Almost all of them were eating the BBS to my surprise. I will still keep adding what little rots I have and looks like I will continue with the bbs as it seems they are taking them ok. Stomachs were not very round this morning and now they are looking good.

PICS --- Mannana???

I know I have been promising pics, I'll try and get some by the weekend.

Anyway, my most recent batch is doing great. I have had very few deaths and the ones I did have were my fault for not feeding them soon enough. I have been feeding nothing but BBS since day 2 and the larvae seem to have no problem with them. My next batch of eggs I am going to try nothing but BBS and see what happens. At this point I think I have more than I could get rid of so some experitmenting with things might be worthwhile.

Interesting and good to know in case of a pinch i guess. I wonder if the development of the larvae will be any faster than what you have seen before.
