Attention Onyx Owners of LA

I bought a pair last june. They came in with internal parasites, but lost the male 2 weeks after I got him from brook. They were a beautiful pair but I don't think they were a mated pair because the females interaction with the male was the same as when I got a replacement. Sadly I lost the female and it caused my entire tank to crash because I was on vacation and had someone taking care of the tank.
I have seen an abundance of them but noone sells then as Onyx. Somewhere around September-October I saw about 7 pairs and where being sold for $40. They weren't an actual mated pair because they were too small and the fins were nipped. I was able to purchase two pairs, but lost one from a pair, now I have the three of them together. I wanted to purchase more pairs, but they were all in bad shape and I think the LFS lost all of them to brook. I haven't seen them since though. I'm thinking of trying one of Rod's Onyx to pair one up.

rbdesigns. THANK YOU very much for your insight and exp. that is my concern also. i spoke with LA and one rep. told me they were a mated pair and another told me they were not. but ve always been concered with brook from LA s onyx. yeahve ive seen them show up and sold as regular percs for around 40 also. but donest matter how cheap they are if they die shortly.

I bought this pair in august and they started to spawn this week. The female was larger than the male, but i dont think they were mated. First the first 2 weeks she didnt allow the male to sleep in her pot. Here are a few new pics.

i called LA, and the first rep. said they were MATED pair. but for some reason i didnt believe her so i called back. the second rep. said they are NOT mated and simply two caught at time of packaging. in there info on onyx. it says you ll get a larger and smaller clown. apparently that is not true.

If you want onyx clowns the best place to get them is from Rod's Reef. He has breeding pair and you can be assured the off spring do not have any diseases like Brook. His are definetly the true onyx clowns as well.

My LFS has one right now that is pure black. No orange on him at all. He is gorgeous. I think he is $40.00, but I think that would be worth it for one w/o any orange.

Yes they came from LA and no i didnt have to do any treatments.
The first pair they sent had brook and ick. Both of them died. The first female was a large mature fish and the male was a small juvi.
The second pair was a male and a juvi, they have both grown alot in the 6 months i have had them. Both pairs were two fish that had a big enough size difference that there wasnt any fighting.
