Aussie SPS Cube addiction

Sorry for the late reply everyone, I have been super busy as I have my wedding in a few weeks time.

Here are a couple of under the hood shots. Excuse the messy sump
PO4 is 0.03 and NO3 is 2ppm
I'm going on a honeymoon soon for 3 weeks to thailand so I have been planning out what I am going to do with the tank while I'm away. I have been getting my APEX unit completely setup. I now have it setup to email me and a mate under different conditions. And I have a webcam setup on the tank so I feel a bit more at ease about being gone for so long. My mate will check in on the tank once a week. fingers crossed its all good.

Also I changed out my MP10's for 2 jaebo RW-8's. I have them hooked up to the APEX via the jaebo apex connector cable. It's pretty neat. I think I am actually liking them more than the MP10's. They are dead silent. And the sides of the tank are clear which is a bonus.

I'll get some more updated photos soon, I got a nice new monti today which has some beautiful colour to it.

Beautiful! Your coral look very happy, healthy and colorful.

Please, post more about your setup. I have a similar sized cube, with SPS, still frags. I also run a dimmable ATI fixture. Are you ramping all the way up to 100% daily? Please post your lighting schedule, as well.

What else would you like to know? At the moment I have new bulbs so I'm not dimming them just yet until they run in, I run 2 blue plus bulbs 9 hours a day and the rest of them for 7 hours a day. If I start dimming again I'll extend the period a half hour each side and fade it over an hour.

I think with this size tank the hardest thing is keeping it stable. Especially once the SPS start to get a decent size and the demands increase. I concentrate on stability at the moment and it seems to be paying off.

I just saw your 7.5G SPS cube. Well you know all about keeping a small tank! that thing is awesome! I love it. Very impressive you kept it going so well!

I like your selection of SPS, do you have problems with the green poci spreading? Looks like you'll need a larger tank before the year is up!

Thankyou, Yeah the green pocci is spready quite fast now. It has a small battle with my superman monti frag and lost a tip. My purple one is growing quicker through that was a tiny frag a few months ago. I have been kinda letting things go and grow into each other just to see if they work it out, No doubt i'll have to start fragging soon though.

Quick update everyone. I have been super busy since I got married on the weekend. And I'm off to thailand on friday for 3 weeks so won't be another update for a while. Fingers crossed the tank is all good while I'm gone.

First photo is from Jan 25th

Took this one today.

Hey everyone. Just a quick update. I just got back from the honeymoon with the wife in Thailand. Was amazing. Anyway the tank held up great. Here is a few pics

Looks great.
Although I'd remove those pocciloporas. They will spread uncontrollably. I had 1 softball sized colony and now there are sprouts all over my 11' tank. The mother colony was never moved. The babies just randomly started showing up

Very nice - I always enjoy progression shots as well as views from all available angles.

Hrm you have me a bit worried about the poccis now. They are growing very fast. They have had a few battles with the surrounding corals but seem to lose every time. I haven't noticed any sprouts popping up anywhere yet. I will have to keep a close eye on them.

Thanks me too. I love seeing reef's progress. It's always nice to see how the corals change and take shape over time. I'm glad mine is growing reasonably quick now so I get to see more of it.

I like those stags, did you get them that big or grow them out to that size? Impressive.

I had a larger colony of the baby blue stags but quite a while back it got some STN so i fragged it up. The frags seem to be doing pretty well now. I can't wait for them to get nice and big.

I have a maxspect Gyre XF130 on the way which I am pretty excited about. I like my current setup with the 2 jeabo RW-8's but I think there is a few dead spots which will hopefully be eliminated. I was hoping it would show up today but it didn't. Now with the easter holidays it will probably be a bit longer.

I see you went 2 MP10's, then RW8 and now waiting on gyre.
What's your reasoning behind changed the first two?

Well. While I loved the flow the MP10's put out in the tank. They were so bloody noisy. One of them had a noisy dry side, I'm pretty sure it just needs the bearings replaced. And another one I got new has a really noisy wet side. It has a noise to it like its not lined up properly when it is. I sent it back to the australian distributor and they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong. So I had just had enough. So i got the two RW-8's as the release date kept getting pushed back for the Gyre.
I really like the RW-8's as they are dead silent. I have them controlled by my Apex which is really handy. The only issue is I think I have a few small dead spots in my tank.
So I have ordered the Gyre and hoping it fixes the dead spots. And my plan is to move the RW8's into my sump compartments and have them come on a few times a day to keep detritus from building up in the sump.

Do you have the Gyre yet?
If so, how is it in that size tank? I'm debating on getting one for my 24x15x19 Fusion 40

Not yet unfortunately, I think with the easter break it will be delayed a bit. Fingers crossed it show's up tomorrow. I will do an update on it once it arrives. I am pretty confident it will do a really good job.

Hi everyone, Just a quick update. Tank is still progressing well. I moved a few corals around, On advice on hear I moved the poccis. Not sure If I will keep them or not but for now they are kind of out of the way. I moved my small Ponape birdsnest frag to be the centerpiece. Once it grows out it should look nice.

I also added a maxspect Gyre XF130. So far I really like it. I need to change my sand to crushed coral because it goes everywhere when I turn it up. But the corals really seem to be liking it, It definitely keeps more detritus suspended.

Here is a few new shots. Sorry they are low quality from my iphone
