automatic water change

Math looks right. Two hours per day isnt bad; mine runs for about 75min/day to change out about 2 gallons.

You could also check the tubing size. I think yours comes with the #1 tubing. If I'm not mistaken, the only difference between yours and the other pumps is the tubing size. If you changed to #3 tubing you would be at 80gpd. You might want to call them to confirm.

Plus 1 on the tubing size.

I completed mine last night. Ran the final line which is 125' long to a drain in the garage.

So as of right now i have the DOS set to remove 2 gallons of water and replace it each day for a 180 gallon tank this is probay on the low side but its for sure better than my old schedule.

just ordered a stenner from locke well and pump. $307 shipped I got the 100DMP5.

I already ran the 2x 1/4" ro/di line to my shed where my mixing station is, and I already have an eb8 and BOB setup, just a matter of plugging everything in now! unlike most people here, I wasn't going to have it setup to automatically do small water changes daily. I don't feel comfortable enough having this pump run when im not home. my plan is to have it do 1-weekly water change while im home. my system is around 350 gallons, so my plan is to have it change around 15 gallons on the weekend while im there supervising.

Here's my setup

So being about a total of 180 gallons I have been letting the DOS run its own program with a 2Gallon per day. What would yall recommend I change to?

Or do you think 2 Gallons a day is fine since it is being done every day. So that is 14 gallons per week. I know this is much better than what I have done in the past so I expect to see some sort of improvement from it. I am not real sure when I should expect to see a change and what changes I should see. I would assume corals should start doing better?

So on my DOS for the 180 gallon tank I set it up to run auto. Below is what I have been running now for a little over 2 weeks.

Do I need to make any changes yall think? Should I change more should I not let it run as many times as it does? Sure seems like it runs a lot to just take out 2 gallons.

I have not seen any changes so far but would assume I should start to see some positive results over time.

mount to dose: 5407.4 mL
Time allotted: 1439 min
Time used: 99 %
Number of doses: 143
Dose every: 10 min
Volume per dose: 37.8 mL
Volume of last dose: 39.8 mL
Unused time remaining: 9 min
Pump speed: 12 mL/min

Ok now I am more confused cause I just did the conversion and that's not 2 gallons per day like I set it up for. Not sure how or why that changed or if it is a limit factor.

Nice! Always jealous of the exterior water change/fish room "sheds". Wish I could do that here but it freezes.......of course right now I'd be more than happy to give you all the rain we've been having in exchange for warmer winters (even if that meant warmer summers)...........I've had a proper pond in the back yard for the better part of a month now. all time record for rain falls last month and it's just rained another inch today....make it stop, please make it stop......

Yep, I love having the water change shed just outside the wall of where my tank sits. Makes things pretty convenient.

Is this programing ok for me? I'm trying to change 3 gallons a day. It's a Dual head stenner pump. As I understand the pump is rated for 170GPD but that's both heads so it's more like 85GPD for our proposes. I programmed it this way. I'm a newbie with the apex therefore all my doubts. So every 15 mins It'll change about 3/4 of a gallon. Is that calculation correct?
SET off

OSC 120:00/015:00/000:00
If time 10:15 to 22:00 then OFF

Now I also have to figure out what to do when the ATO is going. I already programmed my ATO to not kick in if my AW are going. But what If my ATO is going and the the time comes for the AWC to kick in? Will my ATO shut off regardless of the level in the sump until the AWC is done and the the ATO will resume it's normal activity?

Sorry if I made a mess of this whole thing. :hmm3:

Never mind I just woke up thinking and remembered that 120 mins is 2 hours not 4.:blown: So I can half the amount of time. That should be 3 gallons in.

I've got my auto water change going using two SpectraPure pumps on my 46 gallon bow front. Love it!

Right now I have the system changing ~1 gallon every day for a total of 7 gallons a week.

Question:
Is it better to do small changes every day or larger ones less often?

Small changes every day, like the LiterMeter does.

7 gallons per week is (x 4.3) = 30 gallons per month. That is 65% per month. Most reefers would say that's overkill, unless you are trying to restore a tank to pristine conditions before throttling it back to 25% per month.
