Awais' 120g Build

Phosphates aren't overrated for certain tanks. It all depends on what you want to keep. A little phosphate is good, too high a phosphate and it will start to effect certain things.

lol let me re state.... phos are over rated in foods.. yes over a certain level they can stress to kill sensitive corals.

How is Cyclops eeze liquid for feeding fishes? seems they LOVE it.
What does it do to the phos?
Any personal experiences?

Ive been using cyclops for a while now and my fish love it. I havent had any increase in phos since using but as you know I run GFO and Biopellets. My phos has always been WAY lower than my NO3,it usually runs 40-80 on API kits but since I havent had any negative effects I quit worrying about it after a while

Awais phos is over rated in this hobby. everything is made of phos including us as humans. without phos there will be nothing in this universe. its an essential part of everything.
food on the other had (any) will add phos to ur tank no matter what but i think the contribution is very little to where we should be able to ignore it or control it with regular gfo changes.
i feed my tank cyclop eeze dry mix it in ro/di water and feed it with my other frozen foods. its best for smaller fish.

I agree with Bnumair. Unless your going to dedicate your tank and time to sps ONLY then I wouldnt worry about phos.

Good luck on the rock wall, only advice I have is make sure you have new sharp razor blades. I dull blade is a dangerous blade!

Isnt 40-80 ppm high?? Dave?

Mine always stays around 0.05 ppm, its always shows zero with API,s o i use ultra low hanna phos... as you know I run BP and chaetos.

I finally managed to get the back wall out. Without destroying anything!! I used a new steel trovel to get the silicone out. All safe.:spin1:

Got myself a Mandarin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also got some black clowns and maroon clowns...they are in QT now.

Grats on getting the wall off without destroying anything! lol

Yea 40-80 is high but I cant seem to get them down no matter what I do. Plus my tank hasnt had any negative effects from it so I quit worrying about it.

As far as that phos works out for you! Thats what matters.
Again what all do you have in your dt?

1 snowflake clown.
1 chromis
2 tangs
3 PJ cardinals
1 cleaner wrasse
1 mystery wrasse
1 engineer goby
1 damsel
1 flame angel

I think thats all.

I got one of theose Jebao WP40! Man it makes sand storm in the sea!
Its supposed to be 3200GPH
I had another cheap one, 2 powerhead 3200, that is no comparison to this Jebao monster.

When did you add the BioPellets? Any changes in your Nit/phos?

I havent checked in about a month but last time I did my trates were still running high. I'll check again when I get home and post results.

You can get a voltage regulator to reduce the flow of it. I have it running at 30% or so.

Another issue
Im not sure if Im imagining this.

When ever my son runs around the living room DT, I feel like there is more percussion and some sway on the DT then Id be comfortable with.

So I decided to check my joists, which look fine.

Researched about strengthning the floor and then I found to my dismay that the best config for the tank would be to be sitting perpendicular to multiple joist, near a weight bearing wall....

Now my problem, its sitting parallel to the joist resting on at best 2 joist, almost near the middle of its 16 feet span, next to a partition wall/stair case!

Before I started all this I had casually asked someone if this Dt would be ok on first floor and was told its not too big just keep near a wall , itll be ok.

Now Im thinking about sistering those 2-3 joist and also putting up a small wooden beam and 2 lally columns on 2 sides of my sump. ( if you rememebr mysetup, DT in living room and sump in the basement, pretty much below the DT)

What you guys think? Experience?

For the most part a 120 is on rough estimation 1000 lbs. Your floor should be able to handle that on the joists without extra support.

I was initially thinking about sistering and 2 posts, but I belive just 2 post colums would do the trick easily. No need of sweating for the sistering overkill

Finally got the 2 4x4 columns and beam spanning 2 joists under the DT.
Feel better, finally wont yell when my son jumps walks :bounce3:

Have a question:
I had kept the 4x4s in the garage for a month so that it dries up completely.
I secured the columns with L brackets up and down, will that be an issue with contracting in winter??

Awais looks really good and safer for sure. this should reduce/eliminate the bounce effect with your son jumping near the tank. Make sure those pillars dont move, anchor them down into concrete. You dont want someone accidentally bumping into them or shake them lose from the spot. I do see you have them fixed with use of screws and a 2x4 into the back wall but i would feel a bit more safe with 4x4 anchored. just my 2 cents.
