Away We Go - New Reef Set Up 230-250 gal

We decided on the Reeflo 200. I have been a bit concerned about it being able to handle the size of our tank, but I believe we will be okay with it. Some folks thought we should get the Reeflo 250, as lot of people say bigger is better, but this one should do the trick.

Nothing great to show, yet. Here is what I think may be the finalized plumbing and flow scheme. A lot of thanks so far to Paul at Oceans Motions  and James at Envision Acrylics  .

Good job researching instead of just going out and buying whatever to set it up quick!
Good idea to remove the bar, it will help to make the fish tank and room better and more condusive to the tanks needs.

Great start!

I'll be taking the bar out this weekend. I am thinking of replacing the floor with ceramic tile and may even put a drain in there for safety precautions.

Just a quick Update:

Today we received the Reeflo Hammerhead Sequence Pump, 2 Reeflo Gold Dart Pumps for the closed loop, the Aqua Controller, and the Power Inverter 1250 watt that will run off of 3 Deep Cell Marine Batteries. Pics coming soon...tomorrow we are set to get our lighting. The tank should be here in about 4 weeks.

It's like Christmas over here in Memphis. All this stuff is showing up. Go back and remember when you started getting all your fun stuff for your build. You know, no reason to fire up the 400W MH, but you do just to "make sure" it works, LOL. Anyway, here are a couple of things coming in so far...

This is out Hammerhead Reeflo Return Pump

These are our 400W LumenMax Elite Reflectors (With a 250W LumenMax Pendant for the side of the tank) and the Galaxy Ballasts

These are the T5s we are using with Giesemann Bulbs (we have 4x80w and 4x24w)

This is the 1250 Watt Tripp Inverter we will be using for backup. We will have 2-3 deep cell marine batteries connected to it.

I hope this is all not too boring for you guys...It's very exciting for us :D . I also will be posting pictures of the tank as it is constructed. It will be built over the next 2 weeks

Well, I decided if I'm going to be on here all the time, I might as well register! :p

I'm getting excited...

Thanks! This is my build, too. Gieser is my husband. James is starting to build our tank today! We also ordered our flow from Paul @ Oceans Motions today. I'll let him tell you about all of that because this is his thing= the build. We are getting so excited. (Sorry I hijacked your thread, honey!)

But, I get to stock it. The fish and corals are my favorite part. I leave the planning, plumbing and other stuff to him. I have many decisions to make for our livestock. I'm sure this will be a long ride. But, if there is one thing I have learned from our previous tanks.....it is plan, plan, plan. This is hard for me because although it requires it, I am not a patient person. We probably won't have fish for months, but I'm already making my list....I can't wait!:D

Thanks, Blindside. I hope we are starting to build the stand this weekend. So, we should have new pics soon.

Finally, we got the new Tank Stand/Bar built.

Here we have the framing made with 2x4s

50135IMG_1728.JPG

I built this frame to fit on top of the 2x4 frame...this is made of 2x6s

This is another shot of the 2x6 frame...

50135IMG_1732-med.JPG

Here we have placed the 3/4" plywood on top. You will notice on the front and sides, the plywood hangs over the edge. This is so we can place granite or wood on top of it for the bar counter.

Here is the stand, finished. I still have to frame in the walls on both sides as well as the area above the tank. The bar is 43" tall and the tank will stand 30".

Finally, the rear view for now.

I will be posting a few pictures this week from James at Envision Acrylics this week as he builds it.

Love watching a good thing come together. Looks great so far!

Will you be doing anything special to protect the flooring uderneath? I ask because I have manufactured hardwood where my new 250GA will be going and would like to protect it somehow.

I am going to polyurethane it for sure. I am trying to decide on the type, either the thick stuff you see on restaurant tables and such, or just a bunch of thin layers of the paint-on type. I will also floor the bottom of the insides. I have a LOT to put down there. I will definitely paint all of the inside wood with primer. I will paint the walls, etc with a waterproof paint.

My wife Kelly was a HUGE part of this build. I could not have done it without here. We built the whole thing in one day. She was amazing for putting up with me the whole time. I will say that having her on board with all of this is GREAT!! Actually, I am the build and equipment and build guy, she likes to pick the fish and corals. We have amazing plans for this things. Keep tuning in.

I got a couple of photos today from James at Envision Acrylics. He is coming right along. We should have some more pictures tomorrow.

We are getting very excited!!!

 soon we will be able to have :fish1:

Looks great. I will Be following this one.

You were talking about putting a drain in for precautions and I see you have a sink in close proximity to where the tank will go. I'm sure you could put a drain in on the floor of your fish room and plumb it into the sink drain (assuming that you are taking the wood flooring out). I think this would be worth it if you are going to have a fish room and a 240 gallon tank.

Received my 4-Ways from Paul at Oceans Motions today as well. I will get a picture tomorrow of them. These things are built SOLID, and are heavy. I called Paul to let them know they had arrived and thanked him for sending them. He spent about 45 minutes on the phone with me showing me how they work, how to dismantle them, how to reassemble them, how to plumb them, and how to change the drums on them. I cannot believe the amount of time Paul spends with his customers. He has been a plethora not only for his product, but also for his willingness to help me understand current and flow along with plumbing and pump info. Thank you again, Paul, for your interest in your customers.
