Away We Go - New Reef Set Up 230-250 gal

you should've put a rubber membrane down so you dont have to mess with the floors, this way if you ever sell the house or take the tank down you dont have to worry about fixing the floor which i think looks really good, i like that color floor

Thanks! We got a great deal on that floor. It is Brazilian Walnut. We were able to get an odd lot of it. What type of rubber membrane do you mean?

i was actually thinking maybe one that would be used for a shower lining, because you can cut it anyway you want. Maybe put something under the stand to protect the floors and then put the membrane inside of the stand, it could help with a water leak also and hold a good amount of water depending on how high you go up the stand with it,i would think that would be easier in the long run

More "Tank in the Making" pictures. Now we are getting nervous as our dream becomes more of a reality :eek1: . Woo Hoo :D

Thanks, Mike! More to come tonight. I built my light racks yesterday and I may have a few more tank shots tonight.

New pics of the tanks progress came in form James today.

That's awesome - I can only imagine the anticipation you're feeling at this time.

Imagine it now- just heard the tank will be ready to ship Monday, so we will have it I think next Friday!!! I can't believe it! Andrew (Gieser) will probably post some pics of what we have been working on the last few days (lighting racks, etc). Thanks for following. Hope we have no issues with the shipping...cross your fingers for us. :D

Here are some of the final pics of the finished overflows and the tank getting ready for crating.

This is looking down the smaller side of the "L" part of the tank to the overflow on the end.

This is a shot of the overflow on the back of the larger side of the "L" which faces forward.

A quick update of some progress this weekend:

We have obviously not studded up the areas around where the tank will be. We are waiting for the tank to get here, then we will stud around it.

Here you are looking at the shelf that contains our Galaxy Ballasts (3 400W and 1 250W)

This image shows the room better with the lighting rack we built and the track it runs on. What you don't see, yet is the rack that will be installed on the left side of the tank. You will see that soon.

Here is a view of the main fixture. We are running 3 400w MH with LumenMax Elite reflectors and 2 x80w T5 by sunlight supply

50135IMG_1755.JPG

This is a ceiling fan/vent we installed on the side wall of the tank room to draw the air from the main room into the tank room. It is placed right above the floor vent.

Here is the backside of the fan we installed to draw cool/warm air into the tank room.

Here we have floored and walled up the inside of the studs under the tank. We filled in between with "Great Stuff", which is an incredible sound proofing material. We have not added the last of the studs to support the rear as we are waiting to get the sump in there first.

Here is the other part of the stand which has also been floored and walled.

Here is a peep into the tank room. The tank is shipping this week so we will be "Kilzing" all the wood with "Kilz", then laying the membrane flooring under the tank and on the floor (thanks to the suggestion of some of you!)

This is our 8th anniversary, so we are off to celebrate after long day of lots of preparation for our new arrival.

Absolutely awesome so far! Great work.

That skimmer is on my short list for when we start ours - Did you happen to look at the Octo Hurricone cat2 Ext. by chance?

Anyway - Hope you have enough people on hand to carry the precious cargo in when it arrives. :D

Now you know that's the hard part...finding good "those" people that will help to move a 450 lb tank LOL. They will look like this when they get to the house to see it :eek2:

It is like when you are asked to move your buddy's sofa, and they forgot to mention it is a sleeper, then you feel like this :blown:

Wow you guys are really cookin along! I have absolutely no experience moving a tank that large. I wonder if those suction cups from harbor freight or amazon would be of any use when moving acrylic?
